Quick Question, Router and Switch

Thread Starter
Hey guy's I was wondering about this because I recently purchased an 8 port switch and 1000 Foot of Cat5 to network my house.

I was wondering I know my wireless B router asigns IP adresses to each computer on it. When I hook up this switch to one of those port will each computer on that switch be asigned the same IP adress?

Yes, all the computer connected to the router, be it directly or through a switch or hub will recieve an IP address from the router. Just make sure you dont set up two routers, as they will conflict with each other! Also, remember that you cant have an ethernet net cable over 100m (about 300 feet)!

EDIT: I just read your question again: No, the computers hooked up to the switch will each recieve there own IP address's from the router.

Like SoaDmtGuy said, No, the computers will not all have the same IP inside the network. But, when You go out into the internet, they should all have the same IP since you only have the one internet connnection.

Also, when you are wiring your house, try not to put any kinks or bends in the cable. Loosely curving is good, but a bent corner is not good.
