mixing OCZ Platinum rev2 & Kingmax Hardcore?

Hi
Just wondering if mixing these types is possible, the kingmax is ddr500, the OCZ ddr400, and what timings i would need to change, and how to do it. The OCZ is at cl 2-2-2-5, and the kingmax 3-4-4-8. both are Igb (2x512) kits. I am new to this so dont really have any idea and any info would be appreciated.

current system:

AMD 3500+
ASUS A8V Deluxe Mobo
IGB Legend Ram
250 WD HDD
Gigabyte 6800gt

It might work okay, it might not. No way to really be sure until you try it.

All the sticks will work to the speed of the "worst" stick. If some of your ram will only work at cas 3, then all sticks will run at this setting etc.
I'd recommend getting sticks that are as near to each other as possible, and preferrably the same, to minimise the risk of them being incompatible.

ok I guess ill just try it out, if it doesnt work which 1gb kit would you recommend? I have heard nothing but good things about the OCZ, but the same applies to the kingmax. Basically I would like to speed up my load times on Battlefield 2.

Installing the KINGMAX alongside the OCZ will cause it to drop in performance by a large amount.
It is possible and you can do it but very ineffective and expensive way to get 1Gb performance.

cheers

xie67, I have 1GB of each type, OCZ and Kingmax and also which ram will make the other drop in performance? I read here: http://www.extrememhz.com/hc4000-p2.shtml, that I can run the Kingmax at 2.5-3-3-5. will this help?

ooops I misread your first post I guess....
You plan on installing 4 x 512Mb modules with 2 being the OCZ and 2 being the KINGMAX ?
You are aware that the performance will only be as great as the worst performming module ?

If you fill all 4 DIMM's you will drop your maxium speed for them and only be able to get a 2T command rate. Check your manual for DIMM configuration speeds.

cheers

edit : BTW welcome and where abouts in OZ ?

5 now im really sorry for my lack of an idea but which would you recommend I use?
I run 4 x 512 sticks and it does have issues, I can't get it past about 195mhz stable for a start. On the other hand I get better gaming performance with the 2 gig than with 1 gig at a faster speed. Put the sticks in and do a jumper re-set and see how it goes, it should default at a 333 mhz (166) divider but try and clock it back up to speed. Ideally for 2 gig you want 2 x 1gig sticks. You shouldn't need to change any timing settings either, just hope that the ram with the tighter timings can run as loose with out issues as the Kingmax.
