SATA Raid prevents overclocking?

Thread Starter
Hi guys, I just bought 2 x 120GB Samsung SATA Hard drives and fitted them in Raid 0 and installed windows and latest drivers etc etc... Now when i try to get back to the usual overclock i.e. 2.71Ghz... Windows will freeze during boot up phase (when the logo with the blue progress bar thingy appears). Any idea of what shall i do? I am currently running everything on stock. My system is the one below...

Are you using Sata ports 1 and 2? Apparently they are not locked so the bus speed will rise with your overclock...hence your instability. Try using ports 3 and 4
post #3 of 14
Yes Some of the ports on your motherboard arnt locked and are vulnerable to instability form an overclock. Try using the other ports and see if you have any success.

this means i have to re-install windows again!! :'( no way to lock the ports? ports 3 and 4 are located in a rather tight area, between Graphic card and the massive cpu heatsink...

Hmm i agree tight spot but you can do it im sure ..and you dont have to Re-install windows Because of the SATA hot plug feature it should matter moving ports..Hasnt in my experience.

Also extream overclocking will cause that even if the ports are locked.

Yes this is a valid point if you are making a huge Jump OC the Sata drive will not like it as there generally very sensitive to overclocks.

Good point Jrabb1920

it's not that extream, i am increasing the FSB to 245 and decreasing the HHT multiplayer to 4x and increasing the CPU voltage... and adjusting the ram ratio...Crappy board if DFI didn't lock the SATA ports... it's supposed to be a board made for overclocking, so they should've thought about locking the ports, no?
