New PSU or Better cooling?

K, here's the sit:

PSU provides 14A & 15A on 2 12v rails = 29A total
Video OCed @ 645mhz(1.25vcore) / 693mhz(2.15vmemcq)
Temps at OC: 75c vreg / 66c gpu / 41c chipset
Power req @ OC: 38.2A

These temps were the last reading I got before my card crahsed and they were not leveling off either, they were still increasing. It runs well when I start from a cooled state, making me think that my PSU can handle the load but the heatsink can't handle the heat.

So my question is: Can my PSU really handle the load if it runs fine for a few minutes then crahses, or is the temperature the problem? If the temp is the problem, which cooling would you recommend? If not, what PSU out there would provide ~40A on 12v rail(s)?

Well, I'd think cooling myself. Also, you've gotta realize depending upon how the 2 rails are hooked up in the power supply. You can't think ofit as a total of 29A. But in reality, One rail canbe over utilized. The two rails are usually given so that say CPU can pull off of one, and other devices from the other. Regardless, it looks like PS is handling ok, i'd opt for a cooler upgrade. We've had great success with the Zalman fatl1ty, but zalman does offer other lesser coolers that are same functionally, just not as pretty (Lights, copper ramsinks, etc)

the new arctic cooling X2 looks to be very promising... same as with the new zalman vf-900... one of those two will suite your needs and then some...

make sure the video card and maybe a few other things are on one 12v rail, and the motherboard and everything else are on the other 12v rail.... you want to have the rails as evenly loaded as possible. this ill help keep the PSU satble as can be...

Try using a floor fan to blow into the side of your case and see if that helps. If it does then think about getting better airflow into your case. Maybe 2x80mm fans in the front and 1x120mm fan pulling air out of the back. Maybe get a bracket so that you can position a fan to blow air directly onto your graphics card.

Thanks for the response guys. As far as the 12v rails are concerend, I have one connector to the vid card, (PCIE) and another going to the MB. They are both 4 pins each and of course, the mostrous power plug is fitted near the RAM slots.

Okay, so it looks like its the Zalman fatality or the Accelro X2. Thanks again!

Wait a minute, you're telling me that if I unplug the 12v rail that is currently plugged into the 4-pin socket near my CPU, the 6-pin 12v rail plugged into my PCIE card will supply the whole 29 amps to it instead of just half?
