P4 1.7 or Celeron 2.6

Thread Starter
Ok, I have a Asus P4R800-vm mobo I been running a P4 1.7 Willamette. I just pulled a celeron 2.6 Northwood from a dell. I do a lot of video editing. I was just wondering witch cpu I should use? I know P4's are better cpu's but the celeron is a "2.6" and the P4 is only "1.7". The only other diff I see is the v-core and the L2 Cache. What do you guys think I should do? And what little thing can I do to tweek my performance. Im not lookin for much, just stability. Thank in advance for the info.

Here are the specs for the two cpu's:

go with the celeron .. the p4 may be a stronger processor but technically the celeron is just a toned down p4
my vote : celeron
i mean ur getting another .9Ghz out of it and that can make a substantial difference also celerons overclock very well and stay cool trust me
<----look at my processor lol ..... anyways if you were to go the route of overclocking the celeron would have a higher Ghz
good luck.. i hope my informations was somewhat valuable

I would go with the celly also, the higher clock speed will make a differance.

You can probably get at least a 700mhz overclock on the Celeron with stock voltage.

One thing to watch out for is the socket type. I know the older P4's used a different socket type than the *newer* 478.

Get the Celly. Willametts are crap and get beaten by P3s.
Very nice!

I wouldn't be sure about that, They do overclock nicely but can't seem to handle more than 1 stick of ram at any speed above stock. I've been fiddling with a 2.4 celeron for a little while.

a 478 would probly profit the pocket spending more...some components might cost a bit more but you get more usage from the CPU...
