754 dosn't support dual channel, but 939's dual channel support makes only about a 1%-5% increase over 754's single channel.

the only thing i can say is.... we will find out then.
as of right now... i am sticking with amd... and i dont really plan on upgrading to am2 till the end of this year. which is a good thing, because that gives us all time to see what the future holds for both amd and intel.

The small performance increase in DDR2 was why AMD was hesitant to build with it and was looking ahead to DDR3. But what must be dine will be done.
Oh, and the projected price on the Conroe seems like a con job... time will tell! Either Intel is doing the con job and BSing or they are giving them away to beat down on AMD further.
Come the 4th qtr we shall see what the prices are and if they even get them to market by there projected limited production shipments.
BTW, speaking of "limited production" do any of you think any will be on the retail market I think NOT! So if your anticipating to build a Conroe, 2007 1st qtr might be a posibility.

I never expect projection to be accurate. Hence the term "Projection". As you say, time will tell for the actuality.

yeah, too bad no DDR2 CAS 2-2-2-5 and I seriously doubt that DDR3 will be.

Giving them away is better than to: AMD To Raise Prices In April?. Care to pay for more or less?

Time will tell..........well, Conroe is basically a Dothan and/or Yonah for the desktop. So delusional to think that Conroe will not be as good as it has shown to be. After all the 65nm CPUs are a lot less expensive than the 90nm.

I don't know about you guys, but with all the new products coming up, my upgrade plan is to wait it out. New chips from Intel and AMD, new sockets, now memory, and a new OS early 07. I'm just gonna hang in there. Though I'm not really all that excited about Vista, I'm gonne be a smart consumer and wait until it is fully exposed. I don't wanna make an upgrade now and later realize it isn't compatible or something.

Intel seems to be pricing them right. After all, it only costs about $50 to make a CPU.

i dont know about you guys. but after spending about $3000-4000 (including upgrade that i have made) for this system, i am not going to upgrade until next year...
and i am pretty happy about what i have now and i dont think i will need any upgrade until another very good pcgame come out. i dont want to feel like i have a 7800 gtx512 and i buy it because i play gunbound.

I just built this system a few months ago, it's pleanty fast for me. I want to get more memory, and maybe do a minor upgrade to a 940 the end of the year, but there's no way I'm gonna trash this stuff for Conroe in 6 months, or even 9 months.

I missed the Conroe boat since the E-Premium board with the 975 chipset was a lot more expensive, and out of stock when I built mine.

This system will last me till the quad cores come out

But on topic, I have to believe that AMD has something up it's sleeve...Intel has been leaking about Conroe for a while, I think AMD will have something shiny in 2007, maybe even Q2.

As was mentioned, moving to DDR2 was not a major boost in performance, but it also was not a decrease in performance, so why shouldn't they do it. It takes a selling point away from Intel, it makes the memory makers happy, and it does provide an increase in performance.

It's a win win........
