Why is my 3200 showing as 1400mhz?

Thread Starter
I been trying to oc my Amd to 2.6ghz. I've been messing with bios and after I start up windows, I open cpuz and it shows 1400hmz when its supposed to be 2400 hmz. I keep resetting bios and it still shows 1400hmz .

Im thinkin cpuz is messed up or there is something horribly wrong with my hardware. Anyone had this happen to them before? If it my cpu or something, I'll just have an excuse to upgrade.

Two questions:
1. Did you accidentally lower the multi?
2. Does it display 2400mhz or 1400mhz when your system first boots (the black screen right when your system turns on that initializes your hardware should have the BIOS company's logo/version then shortly below that what CPU is running at)?

Also, you might want to check to see if your board limits the FSB or voltage of the processor. If that is the case, then it might start to load it up then toss it back down to a default lower voltage as a safety measure or something.

Anyways.. try turning off thermal throttling in the BIOS and see if it still does it :O

I didn't lower my muti, im 200000% sure and there isnt a cpu display when I start up. Don't know why its strange. I remember all my settings and when i reset bios. I always use the same ones. I've been running at 2350mhz for a couple months now. Dont know whats wrong still, thnx for the reply.

Thermal throttle is automattically off on my mobo. I resetted my cmos about 10 times already and still hasn't changed.

I've been digging through EVGA's forums/yahoos and it looks like some might have problems with locks at 250 or 300. What's your mutli and your FSB set at?

Ding Ding Ding.....there's your answer. Rep for you My money is on the above. Btw, in case you weren't undestanding what Cool N Quiet does or is, it's not thermal throttling. It underclocks your processor when the horsepower isn't needed, but will wake up when needed. The biggest problem with this lies in the fact that when it wakes up, it will default to standard settings and ignore your OC Bios setup.
