Wondering if someboody can enlighten me as to why this 7900gt has a core clock of only 450mhz, is it an old 7800gt core maybe (is that possible with it saying 7900). It is also a little bit cheaper than the normal 7900gt. Is it worth buying that card and just doing an overclock to come up to speed.

I know that a 7900GT is supposed to have a core clock of 450MHz and a memory clock of 1300MHz, so the board is OK from my pow. The price however, I don't see why you say it is low, it's the normal price-point for a non-OCed 7900GT.

I was thinking the 7900gt had a core of 500 or 520 as stock. I am not in the know about Nvidia at all though. mmm looks like 450 is the go as stock, could be a good purchase.

There are a couple gfx card makers that factory-OC their cards such as BFG, XFX and maybe others I don't remember now. They release their cards at freqs such as 500 - 520, but they are a bit more expensive than the normal ones. If you care for a factory guaranteed OC you pay extra, if you like OCing on your own the card you chose is OK. I suppose it can get to 500 and more without problems.

My only concern is why is it clocked slower than most others, is it not as capable as the others to achieve the higher speeds\\performance. This is becoming interesting. I think I might be better off just getting one clocked a bit higher from factory, not sure? When you are in so much competition to sell your product, why would you run it at a much slower speed and only undercut the competition a tiny bit. (competition being other 7900gt manufacturers)

Yes I can get my hands on one of those as-well. I have been more inclined to go sli 7800 gt 512mb than sli 7900gt 256mb. What do I do???

Core Clocks
7800GT - 400MHz
7800GTX - 430MHz
7900GT - 450MHz
7900GTX - 650MHz

Things typically get all out of whack since 3rd party companies bump the clocks up, 450MHz is correct but a lot of cards on the market are over 500MHz, which is good because it's seems to be a damn good overclocker if it cards can OC 100MHz over stock (SuperCLock and XXX versions).

Keep in mind that the 450MHz are for vanilla nVidia cards. The only other ones that are close to 450MHz are PNY versions, and the low end BFG.

get a 7900GT over 7800GT's in SLI, you'll save nearl $200 and get a little less performance, power draw is less and you can always get another 7900GTto kick the pants off 7800GT's in SLi and theorectically have a 7900GTX
