In this thread there will be all the latest news in the first post, all the latest rumours and gossip and a fair few screenshots showing of the engine.
It will be constantly updated by me as I am an avid fan, detailing available editions, possible cars if there ever is a full list and pricing etc.
The Editions
The Standard Edition: RRP: £49.99/$59.99
This is the base edition of Gran Turismo and like any other game will contain disc and instructions.
The Collectors Edition RRRP: $99.99 ONLY AVAILBLE IN THE US

Mysterious "Ultimate" Collectors Edition RRP: £149.99RRP/$NOT AVAILBLE IN US/€179.99
This "Ultimate" edition has been passed around in roumours since head of Sony Computer Entertainment India Atindriya Bose said this in an interview with IVG:

One is the game plus some added content and collectibles, which (has already been announced), while the other is in a really big package with a lot of paraphernalia that goes beyond the game. It’s all car-related, but I’m unaware of the exact contents. That being so expensive, we may not directly order it from Europe, but we could bring in limited quantities from Sony in the Middle East. We’ll also be working with Mercedes in some way around the GT5 launch, but we’re yet to decide the specifics of that. |

Damage
There have been lot of rumours about the claimed damage available in GT5, and hopefully I can clear this up.
Damage is expressed mainly on three levels, and there are some differences between the Premium and Standard cars.
Physics-Affecting Damage
This is damage in which the physics simulation is affected by alignment deviations, etc. This is damage that affects controllability, meaning that the car may not drive straight, or it might become unstable in corners, depending on the amount of damage. Affects all cars.
Dirt, Scratches, and Dents
This is damage that can be visually seen, and involves the body becoming dirty, scratches and dents. This will affects all cars.
Separation (dislocation) of Body Panels
This is damage in which body panels are dislocated from their original positions, or deform. This will affects only Premium Cars.
As in a real race during a really hard crash, or when bumps on the road are hit at very high speeds, or if the car’s orientation is not right during a jump, the car may roll over under these unexpected events, and the effect will bring intense excitement to the race.
"Premium" and "Standard" Cars
Headlights come on in Gran Turismo 5 and, in Premium Cars, In premium cars you can switch between low and high beams, meaning you can now adjust the light according to your needs.

Premium Models
Premium car models in GT5 are built from the ground up for the new game, thats HD models and interiors.
Premium cars are included in all editions of the game. Premium cars account for 200 out of the 1000 cars available in the game and come in all editions of the game.
Standard Models
These are models that are scaled up and "Re-Mastered" from the models in GT4, these contain no interiors, and less polygons used on the body work meaning the actual car wont look as smooth as the premium varients.
Standard models account for 800 cars out of the 1000 available in the game.

What really stands out is the expressions at night. Not only is the scenery lit up in a life like manner by the headlights, the dirt kicked up by the car is lit by the tail lights, and gives off a warm glow; these natural, normal, every-day scenes are what bring everything that much closer to reality.
In this edition, tyre smoke has also evolved.
By reviewing tyre structures down from the simulation level, the surface temperature of tyres has been simulated. Starting from figuring out the principle of why smoke is produced in the first place, the game succeeds in producing realistic tyre smoke just like that of a real car.
Photo Mode
Positioning your favourite car in a beautiful location, for a perfect photograph… The Photo Mode which presented a new way to enjoy racing games in Gran Turismo 4, will make another leap forward in this edition.
In Photo Travel, you can visit beautiful locations from around the world, to take photographs of your favourite car.
This is equivalent to the previous Photo Mode, and the user interface and the locations (stages) have been completely renewed. And with the addition of the Walk Mode where you can stroll about freely within the scene, you are given much more freedom and allowed much more expression in taking that perfect shot.
Tracks and Locations
Tracks included in Gran Turismo 5 are of 20 locations with over 70 variations, and the precision of each recreation has been improved dramatically.
For example, the north loop of the Nurburgring that attracted much attention when it was first introduced in Gran Turismo 4 on PlayStation 2, has now evolved on PS3 to be more precise and more detailed. Not only is it limited to the undulations of the track, it includes acurate recreations of the side structures and even the graffiti which gives Nurburgring its unique character.
