7800GS Buy or not to buy? - Page 2

I just bought the eVGA 7800GS to upgrade from my ATI 9800PRO. I have had nothing but random reboot problems, mostly in games and 3dmark, once just sitting in windows with firefox open. I applied AS5 to the heatsink a minute ago, we will see what that will do. The "detect optimal frequencies" gave me 462/1360 My temps are 40C idle and >60C load using ATItool artifact detection. I know it is a good card, maye it is my power supply. I've tried many setups with my 2 PSU's. All the results are the same. I will get it running eventually (hopefully).

Man i am sure glad i didn't pump out the doe for this card. I have read allot forums were people like you have had reboot issues.
((suggestion)) Try running a single harness to that card. Make sure there is nothing else plugged into that harness, but the card.

Went ahead and bought the 6600GT for my wifes Gate*** and a new power supply as well. Not a bad price for a 35amp rail i say.
It's funny, i payed $100.00 for P/S a year ago and its only a 28amp rail.

The kid will learn to love the game ((BF2)) with low graphics.

Thanks to you all for the replies and suggestions.
PS good luck with that card.

This is a great thread, I'm looking at upgrading myself and was thinking about the 7800gs. I'm now checking out the 6600gt or the 6800. Thanks to everyone for all the great advice

I might have my 7800GS stable right now, last night I picked up the 84.21 drivers and put AS5 on to replace the stock thermal compound. The only game I have that is really unstable is C&C Generals. I haven't tried much else, I have been attempting to fix these games I let one of my friends friends borrow. BIG MISTAKE, the CD's came back looking like he had thrown them into a wood chipper, I don't know how some of these scratches could even get there. So now I don't have Far Cry or Half Life 2. I am going to test the card some more, I will report my findings.
