OCing my eVGA 7800gt

I'm pretty new to all this overclocking, so i hope im not doing any thing wrong.

Just built myself a new computer, installed all supplyed drivers and ran 3dmark05, got around 7100, updates my nvidia drivers to 84.20, which gave me an extra 150ish on 3dmark05.

Ive now used the reg hack to unlock the overclocking features, increased my Core Clock to 490 and ran 3dmark05 and got 7683gfx 5286cpu so a nice increase of around 400.

Ive not increased the memory clock yet, but is this all safe, I mean will my gfx card break? I never saw any artifacts with the Core overclock.

Cheers.

Nice choice on the card, but to answer your question you should be fine in upping your mem clock. Do it in small increments and test for artifacts each time. In my experience, artifacts are more common when increasing the mem clock vs the core clock. You wont hurt the card at all as long as you keep it cool. Make sure to stay below 70C. Have you also considered stepping up to the 7900 series?

Mine idle temps are about the same. If you dont already have nvtemplogger, you can get it from the link below. It sits in your icon tray, so during a game you could alt+esc out and check the load temps quick. Also, Rivatuner I believe has a temp monitoring chart which saves card temps. Check it out and give it a try.

You'll probably be able to push a little more out of your core clock and mem clocks, say up to 500 core 1.15 mem. Make sure to test between each increment so you can find a setting that maximizes the cards potential but doesnt artifact.

I thought i saw some artifacts with 1.10 mem clock, but went back to defaults and had the same thing, it looked like the shadows where not rendering properly, maybe some thing to do with the z-buffer.

Where can i find screen shots of artifacts, just so i know what im looking for. At the moment i think every error could be an artifact.

I would be suprised if you would get artifacts @ 1.10 mem . I also have and Evga 7800GT -18 sn# evga has a few of them . Mine does 502core 1.23 mem and will hit 58c under load. I test temps by alt tabbing out of a game and leaving the nvidia CP with temp window up. Good luck .

If the temp gets to hot will the computer just hang?

I've had a hang during 3dmark 05 doing 500 and 1.20
