Memory error... but my memory's fine.

My computer's been down for a while, and I've been attempting to revive it today. I've got it so the fans and PSU and HDDs and everything start up, but my motherboard (FIC AM37) is giving me a memory error. Now, the fun part is that my RAM is fine. I tested it in my little sister's computer, it boots up without a hitch. What's going on here?

I'm getting sick of my main computer being a G3 iBook...

Can you increase the RAMs voltage?
Also get memtest86 and test the RAM in your sisters PC

Nope, can't even get to the BIOS. I've cleared the CMOS, swapped everything multiple times, and still nothing.
Oh well, I just worked out my purchase of a 3700+ SD, ASRock DualSATA, AS5, and Big Typhoon with my dad... he's paying for half. Should be getting it in a couple weeks, got about $80 more to save up.

Check the Offical Dual SATA post and info on that MB in the BIOS section, some good info

Just a word of advice about the ASRock, I had one for about three weeks before it blinked on me. It was a decent enough board, but it had quite a few quirks. The ULI chipset really impressed me though, I think it will get its props soon enough.

If you want to do more then some moderate overclocking this may not be the board for you. The reason, you are very limited on how many volts you can pump into your memory and cpu.

Memory is 2.8 volts on the high setting unless you do volt mod that caused nothing but issues for me. If you have or intend to buy tccd or uccc memory then you will have no worries. I have bh-5 so this was a major handicap.

The max voltage you can pump into your cpu is 1.45 volts. If you are sporting a dual core configuration this should not be too big of a limiting factor, but if you have a single core such as 3700+ it may hold you to modest overclocks. The volt mod for this is easy enough and you can get up to 1.55 volts, nothing too aggresive but decent.

Overall the bios does not allow as much manipulation as other boards out there. So if you want to run at stock or do moderate overclocking then it would be a great choice. If you want to push things to their limits without warranty voiding mods (guilty, oopps), then you will want to look elsewhere.

Did you make sure your hard drive and all other connections are secure?

I'm planning on doing a bit of OCing, but nothing major on this board. This is just a go-between board to spread out the cost of going to PCI express. When I get my planned card (6800GS/7600GT, 7900GT if I get lucky), I'll be getting a LanParty Ultra-D or an SLi-D.

I could not OC at all with my XP 2400+/FIC AM37, it came from an old HP I had laying around when my Celeron/Matsonic kicked the can.

What type of memory do you have or do you intend on getting for the board?

It looks likes the processor you are looking at is at a default of 1.35/1.40 volts, so it might prove to be somewhat of a limiting factor unless you want to do the volt mod.

The lowest 1 GB stick from G.Skill with a heatspreader... I'll edit with a link.

Bit strapped for cash, can't afford to spend the $200 for a gig of TCCD. I plan on using a divider, aggresive if needed. I'm not expecting much more than 10MHz out of these things.

I can not find what type of chips they have. The volt range is from 2.6 to 2.75 and that leads me to believe it is TCCD or UCCC memory or similar. Might be worth investigating a little. I bet you will be able to get a 500MHz or better overclock with this board without a volt mod, but after that you will definitely have stability issues because that Sandy is going to want more juice. 1.45 runs right around 1.47 in actuallity and volt droops a little, but nothing to major. Good luck with your negotiations.

Thanks for all the help. I doubt it's TCCD, since I didn't think they came in 1GB sticks, and they're selling TCCD modules for well more than twice the price of mine. It's possible it's TCC5, though.
