You do need a different type for the like's of R402a and other really high pressere gases, if your just going to be using 134a or 290 (Propane) then they will do you fine

damn it i was after one that would last for the rest of my project building days which means it should be able to handle all gases incase i decide to change thing. I dont want to have to buy equipment i have already got because i brought the wrong stuff first time round. Dont suppose you could tell me how to know whether a manifold im looking at is good enough for everything or post an ebay link to the sort of thing im looking for please.

Thanks for all your responses everyone i do appreciate it

I did see a Manifold with extra gauge cover's to suit higher pressure gasses, i can't seem to find it anywhere now.

Don't get me wrong those gauges will work with any gas the gauges just won't read the exact pressures, you could alway's buy a pair of HS & LS pressure gauges and change them over when you need to.

im told i need a manometer to accurately charge a newwly built system so if i buy one of those will it still help to have the correct manifold gauges as well?

You don't need a 4 way manifold so never mind that one.

I'd say get the top one, i was looking at that last night, i thought it was a pretty good deal.

Your probably never going to use R402a ad such, that manifold will be fine for what your going to do.

No gauges alone work with every gas, however at BES (Ref/AirCon > Manifolds) they have a manifold which has 'swapable' gauge dials so you can use most gases without having to buy extra gauges.

You don't need a manometer, the gauges will be fine, i'd say get a manometer or weighing station if you were replacing the charge in a unit but because it's a new/modified build then the gauges will suffice.

You should get a Vacuum Gauge though, which is sometimes called a Manometer, goto BES (Ref/AirCon > Detectors & Gauges > Bottom Item), it's expensive but if you want to be sure then get one.
