Help Diagnosing 7800GS Problem! - Page 2

I think its your rosewill that's killing you. I woulnd't trust them anymore than I could throw a tank. I personally think you should get a new PSU. I mean system restarts? That's powersupply problems for sure.

I know you don't want to get a new PSU, but I think you should just to save you some trouble. Try either one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ory=58&Ntk=all

I think its the new AGP Nvidia cards that suck. I had both the 7800gs and now i have the 6800gs. Both cards gave me consisten problems. I returned the 7800gs and got the 6800gs and still have issues with crashing of certain games and blue screens. I have not yet tried the new drivers, but i will try them tonight. I think its just the agp versions that have the issues.

Thanks for the help guys, I re-installed the latest motherboard drivers and the 84.21 drivers after using drivercleaner and haven't had any problems aside from C&C Generals, which crashes in the menu for some reason. I have my CPU at 3.75GHz and my 7800GS at 460/1350; FarCry runs well with HDR on, which I LOVE, as well as HL2, Doom 3 and BF2, so C&C just doesn't like the 7800 is my guess. I might pick up a new PSU in the near future just to be sure I have enough power to sustain my OC.

Make sure your AGP mini port drivers are the most current available. Some Mobo bios' are not containing the most current AGP drivers and that could be a cause of crashes and wierd instablilities, least that what the BFG quick install guide said on mine while I used it for some bathroom reading while board. Worth a try if it's still giving you gripe.

So how would I go about finding the right ones for me? Are they included with the "INF Update Utility"?

I have that thing. After I installed that, I got stability back for the most part.

First you need to know what chipset your mobo is using. Mine was the Via K8T800 Pro. After that its just a matter of going to the chipset makers sight or googling the driver up. Mine was as simple as DL, unzip, install.
Edit: Oh yea I wasn t having any crash/lockup issues but my directx9 seemed to be preforming slower than expected in CoD2. After the patch I'd say I got about 25% boost in performance/fps and the colors seemed a bit more vibrant also.

I had stable gameplay yesterday. I came home today to try it out again, first I ran 3dmark05, it locked up during the 2nd CPU test. After that I tried out FarCry, it locked up within 5 minutes. Half Life 2 locked up within 10 minutes. I ran AtiTool to put my GPU at 100% load and ran 1 instance of Prime 95 to load my CPU. The CPU never got above 45C and the GPU went to 64C, and stayed there for about 15 minutes, then everything locked up, but the screen didn't turn black as it does in games. I have both my CPU and GPU OC'd but I don't think that has anything to do with it crashing because I have the same problems even if they are at stock speeds. My CPU is at 3.67GHz and the 7800GS is at 470/1400. I haven't found anything that has to do with AGP miniport drivers, everything I find is for AMD motherboards. I ran Driver Cleaner today again and then re-installed my 84.21 drivers. I dont know what else to try.

Im just letting you know, the drivers for the agp version suck. I have been having this problem for over a month and many others with the agp version. Good luck. Let me know if you find a fix.

I found a forum whilst Googling that said the 83.40 and 83.60 drivers work well with the 7800GS, and was confirmed by a couple people actually downloading them and posting their results, so I am going to download those tonight and see what happens. I am also going to defragment my drives for good measure.
