Help Diagnosing 7800GS Problem! - Page 4

Hey i just bought my 7800gs a week ago im having sort of the same problem it crashes into a blue screen and says it may be the hardware. i already upgraded my powersupply to a 430 w , i havent tried hooking it up to its own dongle yet, i have tried about 4 or 5 sets of drivers and it still happens i have the card runnin cool 40c at idle 47c under load, 3d mark 03 crashes after the nature scene but i still got a score of over 15000. Im not sure what to do maybe send it back or if someone found a fix we really need the help????

Because right now, the screen just turns black and the sound loops and I have to restart manually. I just wanted to clear that issue up to see if I even need to bother with drivers if it is in fact a PSU problem. Thanks for the help guys.
I have had an issue with freezing and sound loop with my old 6800 Gigabyte. Took it back and they found it was defective. So maybe you have a defective card.
It's worth a try?

I just sent a message to eVGA customer support telling them about the problem, so hopefully I can get a new card. I have a question though, can I still get a new card even though I replaced the thermal compound with AS5?

Yes, I mean the REAL answer is no. But, most videocard companies don't check all of that, so what I suggest to you is (if you have any) get some white thermal paste becuase chances are thats what was on your vc when you 1st got it, and send it back to eVGA and they won't know the difference.

Technically you've voided your warranty but if they can't tell the difference your warranty is still valid.

Ok, the sticker that covered one of the screws is still intact and the compound that was on the card was actually silverish like AS5, but not as dark, hopefully they wont be able to tell.

On the eVGA forums it looks like a ton of people have this problem with the 7800GS CO. There is a known issue with SiS chipsets that gives this error, but I don't have one of those, and neither do a few other people on that forum. I really want to get to the bottom of this problem because people have RMA'd this product 3 or 4 times with the same result. I am starting to think it isn't a defective card, but some hardware compatibility issue, that nobody knows about.

OK, I got a reply from eVGA. They said to try the card in other systems and all that stuff, but the interesting thing was that they said I would not be charged for changing the thermal compound, and I am still eligible for warranty services.

I would recomend taking down the links to the forum showing several people with the same problem. Then ask the guy on the phone to point his browser that way. And then say. hmmm... Sounds like a Recall is needed

Please post after you get the new card. I want to know if you expirience the same issue. I have not seen a cure to this and would like to know if it is just the card. I had another blue screen with my 6800gs yesterday while playing cod2 and that game jsut keeps crashing after a certain time like 10-15 minutes. I had no issues what so ever with my 9600xt. I am selling this piece of **** card and going ATI. I had enough of it.
