Did not see this post. Sorry, stalker is one of the games. Also Aion and etc.
To be honest, do I really need a quadcore to run the graphics card that I have in my cart right now

Which FPS games, specifically? The only titles that would require more than an HD4850 are Crysis, Metro 2033, STALKER, and a couple others. 99% of MMORPG's will run just fine on an HD4850.

It's definitely better in the long run to get a quad-core CPU as more and more game developers are coding games to utilize multiple cores. I highly recommend getting a quad. The Athlon X4, however, is one of the slowest quads for gaming. It excels more in video and photo editing, but gets beaten by many dual core CPU's for gaming. Phenom II quads will be sufficient for all of your needs, but cost much more. That's why I recommended getting the Athlon X2 5000+ from ewiz and unlocking it to a true Phenom quad.

Here's a useful article to read to compare gaming performance: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2836/8

If you really don't want to mess with unlocking (it's an exceedingly simple process), everything else looks good. The CPU isn't ideal for gaming, though.
What would I need to change to make it an ideal gaming rig in your opinion azn? Do you mind posting a picture? I think it would make it easier. Sorry
post #64 of 313
Eh, everyone learns from mistakes. Overclockers just make more expensive ones lol.

That motherboard doesn't support DDR3 though, you need one that's AM3 only. This would work for you.

Sounds like it's budget vs future proofing at this point. I've never done serious unlocking, only dabbled.

I would stay away from Biostar boards. I've never really hard anything good about them, though I haven't had personal experience with them.

To make your rig an ideal budget gaming rig, I would simply get rid of the Athlon X4 and replace it with this: http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=...2-2GHz-AM2-OEM

Like I said earlier, if the unlocking fails the first time, it's still cheaper to buy another one and try again.

Does that CPU work with AM3 though, since it's a Deneb? Or is it AM2+?

What do you mean exactly? I believe the unlocking route is both more budget-friendly and future-proofing, assuming he doesn't get unlucky and have 2 failed unlocks in a row.

It will work in the Asus board just fine. It's an AM2+ chip. Since the motherboard supports AM3, he still has plenty of upgrade options down the road.

Get an AMD Athlon II quad, 4GB of RAM, 500GB HDD, Radeon 5770 and you're ready to roll. Nice gaming build.
