Suggestions needed for a new computer

Thread Starter
Greetings,

I am new to the forum and this will be my first OC attempt. It's been a while since I last paid attention to hardware developments. While I was googling the keywords, this board shows up again and again, I figure this might be a very good resource to seek help accessing the potential of the system I plan to build.

At this moment, the price tag is estimated to be around $1,400, the detailed spec is in the sig. I will be mainly using this machine for simulations (coding/running various Monte Carlo schemes with C/C++). I probably should have stick with the old Radeon 3650 instead of buying GTX 460 but the price/performance is too hard to resist and am wanting to check out Crysis II ,other than that I plan to work under Ubuntu mostly and wishing to go beyond 4 Ghz. Please let me know if I made any mistake choosing components (such as a cooler that won't fit ) or if there is good replacements to bring the price down a little bit.

Thank you very much.

Meh.

Dominator RAM is silly. The price is just stupid.

850w is way overkill.

Otherwise it was fine. Just tryin to save the man some money.

I personally wouldn't. The Redline RAM will OC to 2000MHz @ C9 but it doesn't offer much OC room at the tight timings that are specified for it.

I'd just stick with the Blackline and OC it to about 1800MHz @ C8.
