AMD 2500+ Barton restart problem - Page 3

I found that the best voltage on a Barton 2500+ @3200 was around 1.75 - 1.8V. The mobile Bartons could do it with less but the desktops liked a goodly amount of voltage. As long as you have a decent cooler and make sure that the temps are decent you can make it.

Considering you are making it this good at 1.7 I would incrementally raise the core voltage until you are not rebooting anymore.

It sounds to me that your processor will easily make the 3200+ clean if you raise the voltage. I built a friend of mine's system with an this processor and it is still running two and a half years later.

Update: Cooling

I tore through some old boxes, found 2 very nice 120 MM Antec Fans , I rigged one up in my empty drives, I use external stuff, so I have blank slots where CD Rom/ETC is...I got a 120 MM Fan Blowing Air Out there, a 120 MM fan blowing out the back, 80 mm fan blowing into the case, 80 mm fan infront of case blowing up into HD area, 80 MM fan on side opposite sliding door blowing in. I give you this screen shot as far as temperature goes.

Link can be found here, if too small to read

I'm going to raise the V-Core, in an attempt to stabilize and run a quick gaming session, see what I can produce.

More to come, thanks for all the advice.

V Core is now running 1.85 Volt holding at 46 degrees idling, going to attempt a gaming session, and then alt f-4 to see where its at. Anyone know any good stress programs, prime 95 seems to be down, like a good Bench Mark Program. Hoping this stabilizes it..go for the gold.

Try SP2004 or OCCT for stress testing same as prime95 but a bit more updated. As far asa benchmarl you can do the standard 3dmark 03, 05, 06 for graphics and pcmark or SiS sandra benchmarks.

If there is no problem I would test it at 1.8V as you never know. It might be that you have one that takes a bit less than many.

By the way. Do you have the 10GB Hitachi hooked up on the primary controller? If so, I would hook it up as a slave to the CD-Rom. You are losing some DMA speed if you have a DMA/33 drive hooked up as a slave to a DMA/100/133 drive. The fastest drive will default to the slowest drive's DMA access.

Everything works fine, runs well, runs smoothe, but a random restart follow by a hanging of BIOS, and lots of crazy ass windows messages when restarting.

No, you have another AMD Athlon XP 2500+, no the same processor. It could be a different revision/stepping and it is not the same processor. One processor can make a certain voltage while another of the same speed value might not.

For you to have an Athlon XP 2500+ Desktop Barton processor that makes 3200+ @ 1.75V is very good. Many do not have such luck. This seems to be one of the ones that do not make 1.75V. Maybe 1.8V will do it, maybe 1.85. Some will not make it even at that level.
