For you to have an Athlon XP 2500+ Desktop Barton processor that makes 3200+ @ 1.75V is very good. Many do not have such luck. This seems to be one of the ones that do not make 1.75V. Maybe 1.8V will do it, maybe 1.85. Some will not make it even at that level.

Are you only talking about the XP? If he were to get an XP-M 2500 he may have better luck. I am running mine at 2.4 GHz @ 1.7 volts. It also ran very well at 3200 speed with 1.55 volts. I haven't seen to many talk about their desktop XP 2500's oc'ing abilities. Is this a common scenerio?

When the Athlon XP 2500+ Barton came out it was the going thing to overclock this processor by raising the voltage to ~1.7 - 1.85v and the fsb to 200MHz from 166MHz thus achieving the 3200+ speeds. With the proper motherboard most made this transition but as time went on less and less seemed to make the transition as easily.

The mobile processors made the jump much easier as they were less voltage needy and were cherry picked by AMD for the lower voltage requirements. They were also unlocked so one could use the extra variable of the multiplier when overclocking and these processors could make ~2.4 - 2.6+ GHz @ 1.7 - 1.85V which is something of a rareified spot for a Desktop Barton 2500+.

The default core voltage of the Barton 2500+ Mobile was 1.45v

The default core voltage of the Barton 2500+ Desktop was 1.65v

Let me ask you this, simple question..what happens when its not stable, does that cause the reboot? Or would Windows freeze, lets say its unstable what happens. I think its safe to say its stable, after 7-8 hours up time idling, only in intense gaming does the PC restart...I uped Vcore and I'm going to give it a try again now.

Instability can take many forms of which rebooting is one. With your case it is often the problem of voltage or power supply inability to supply a constant stream.

What are the specs on that PSU?

We are 100% Stablized guys. 2 Hours of gaming, ZERO restart, running temp at max load 54C. Running perfect, and still going. I think its safe to say, increasing the Vcore to 1.85V, secured it when 1.75 wasn't it...I might try 1.8 a little later on. Thanks to all for help, guess now I can start lending my vast knowledge to other people's post, and gaining some rep! Yeah!

Mist~

Wooooooaaaah....hold it people.....why is your Vcore so high? I have managed to get 2,3ghz at 1.65 Vcore. 1.85 seems a bit high....Also a tactic i have done is that i run a divider on the mem and fsb and run the mem at a slower speed but with incredibly tight timings and leave FSB at 200mhz. Try that as it can rule out the mem problem.....but still such high Vcore? this may let you lower your vcore,....it let me lower mine by 0.025 somehow..........

Damn, I wish I saw this post earlier. I've been having a lot of problems with my overclocking Barton 2500+ adventure as well, and I'm running on a crappy board too. I could have helped you tons.

The FIRST thing I saw though is your vcore. Now, normally you shouldn't have to go as high as 1.85v, but in some cases like ours (mistwraith and I), the processor demands a bit more.

I'm currently running at 200 MHz x 11 as well for 2200 MHz, and I can only stabily run it at 1.8v. You SHOULD be able to drop your vcore down to 1.8v, so no worries there It's not such a big deal anyway since you should safely be able to hit 2v with these processors (although I highly do not recommend it if you can help it).

I'm going to go for a 210x11 OC once I figure out my RAM. I don't want to put in a divider but it's being finicky for some reason.

Anyway, I hope that little useless bit of information I gave you helps a bit in the future with your Barton One last thing: I know the Bartons run hot in general - I myself have run on load at 60'C - but I still suggest that you try to find a cooling solution that will put you at long-time temps no more than 55'c load. The ExtremeVolcano 12 heatsinkfan I bought keeps me at 48'c load at mid speed settings
