Where do I place the CPU temperature diode?

Thread Starter
My case came with two temperature diodes, one for the hard drive and one for the CPU. Problem is, I'm not exactly sure where the hell to put the thing. Google didn't help too much, I got one site that said to put the diode as close to the CPU die as possible without actually touching it. Only problem with that is I have an Opteron 165, so it has an IHS. Any ideas on what I should do/where I should put this thing?

Thanks in advance

There are 2-3 locations dependant on if the CPU has an IHC (or metal cover).
1. No IHC, Place the TC (ThermalCouple) next or at the side of the CPU core and incontact with the CPU and secure with the appropriate tape.

____|CPU|o_____
||||||||||||||||| the o being the TC

2. With and with out if you want to install it in the FHS, if the HS (Heat Sink)has the available girth. The specs are socket A but still the location and method for incerting the TC into the HS are the same, SEE pg. 13

3. CPU's with an IHC that utilize an HS that is not capable of drilling/incerting and TC.
Adhear the TC along the edge of the IHC.

NOTE, in methods 1 & 3 DO NOT allow the TC to obstruct the CPU or IHS contact with the HS!!!

Ah, thank you very much, The Duke. Once again, you come to my rescue.

I believe that I'll use method 3, just because I'm loathe to take a drill to my shiny, new BT. Thanks for the list, though, I should never have problems with this kind of thing again
