Best 3-way SLI Motherboard?

Thread Starter
Guys,

I am starting to put together my next build. I want the best motherboard to support 3 x nVidia GTX 480's. I will be populating the mother board with an i7 980.

Boards I am looking at include:
  • GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD9 - $700
  • EVGA 170-BL-E762-A1 4-Way SLI - $429
  • ASUS P6T7 WS Supercomputer - $400
  • EVGA E760 CLASSIFIED 3-Way SLI - $390
  • ASUS Rampage III Extreme - $380

I know not many boards support true 3 x SLI. I am not all hung up on the "true 3 X SLI", what I am really looking for is the motherboard that will provide the BEST environment for the 480's. I want the highest frame-rate with maxed out settings possible (2560 x 1600 as well as a possible multi-monitor 3D setup).

Are there other boards I should consider? What are your opinions? What reviews/benchmarks did you base your opinions on?

BTW, I cant go 4-way SLI as I dont think the electrical circuits where I live will take that much power draw. I will be pushing it with 3-Way - I may even have to power my monitors, audio speakers and other external components on a different circuit!

What do you guys think?

GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD9 would be the best but I wouldn't pay full MSRP for it. Newegg does have some nice bundle deals that bring it down to $4xx.

Otherwise, I would say get the Asus Rampage.

BTW, the EVGA Classified and Asus Rampage only support 16x/16x/8x when running Tri-SLI.

Definitely RE3. The UD9 is for 4 SLI and is insanely expensive, EVGA is way overrated and the ASUS P6T7 doesn't have SATAIII and half of the options the RE3 has (and doesn't look as sexy )

Edit: I just saw that you own a C300 SSD, then you should really go for the RE3 as it is the only MB in your list that supports SATA III natively. Oh and use the MSAHCI drivers, don't install those crappy marvel drivers, just a hint

my vote goes to the RE3 too. I would say most of these boards especially the Ud9 would be good for extreme cooling like Dice/LN2

yeah i would go with either the EVGA E760 CLASSIFIED 3-Way SLI or ASUS Rampage III Extreme both are really good boards with lots of features and good overclocking ability's just compare the specs, read the reviews and decide for yourself whats best for you.

I don't think that the EVGA would be such a good choice for him as he owns a SATAIII SSD. He would loose a lot of performance by connecting his C300 to the SATAII connectors.
