First Time Attempting Build - AMD 1k build

Hello, a friend of mine referenced me to this site, and said you all did good work on picking apart new builds. So I am interested in what you all think of my rookie build, total price tag came up to around $950:

Mobo : MSI 880GMA-E45 AM3 AMD 880G SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Hard Drive : Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Video Card : SAPPHIRE 100282-3SR Radeon HD 5850 (Cypress Pro) 1GB 256-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX

Processor : AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition Callisto 3.2GHz Socket AM3 80W Dual-Core Desktop Processor - C3 Revision HDZ555WFGMBOX

Memory : CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TR3X6G1600C8D

Psu : CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power

Tower : COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Several questions : Part of my rookie process is trying to get an understanding of: Space in the tower, Getting the right motherboard, and not overheating. ( I really haven't considered overclocking ).

Another concern is, if I am over purchasing on any particular item and will not be able to get 100% use out of it or the best quality from that item.

I want everything to be compatible, and when I attempt to put it together everything collaborates and runs smoothly.

Thank you for your time and replys.

Seems like a high price for what your getting. Where did you get the prices from? The best overall prices are *usually* at Newegg (in the US). Anyways there are better motherboards and better processors etc. People will recommend maybe a quad core (Phenom II 955) or a different chipset on the motherboard (890fx) for better overclocking, I'll let them do that haha! But overall it looks solid EXCEPT 6 gb of ram is not necessary unless you need it for Photoshop of the likes. I would recommend 4 gb (2 x 2 gb). Another reason is 6 gb (3 x 2gb) is triple channel (2 x 2 gb is dual channel) and AMD doesn't support triple channel.

Everything looks pretty good. The one thing I did see is that your motherboard has integrated graphics which isn't necessary if your buying a graphics card. I would also recommend an aftermarket CPU cooler if you plan on doing anything which takes a lot of CPU power. Besides those two things it looks like you have a pretty solid build.

I didn't realize that mobo had a built in, also I am getting my prices from newegg. hopefully I can cut my cost a little by taking less ram and a different mobo. Do you have any suggestions as far as what I should be considering for a new mobo and ram?

It all depends on your budget for Motherboard/RAM. There's A LOT of amazing AM3 boards that cost A LOT of money, same thing goes with the RAM. If your not planning on doing a lot of overclocking on RAM, and you don't need a giant heatsink, this is what I have and it works fine for me. (4gb)

hi there, and welcome to OCN - i hope you enjoy your stay here

you have a few choices here. drop the 5850 for a 5770/5830 (if you want to crossfire later) or GTX 460 1gb, and use the spare cash to splash on nice peripherals or a sound card or SSD, or something, or even put the spare cash in your pocket . also, i'm sure there's a better cooler for the price for AMD

you can also get some money off the case and PSU if you use the promo code ANT48. comes to just over $1000 for me.

Thank you, Appreciate the feedback. That combo is a great deal and does allow me to maybe invest in a good sound card, thanks for the promo code as well.
Concerning sound cards though, I want to clarify if the motherboard on your wish list has a built-in sound card and want to know peoples recommendations on mid-level sound cards?
I also want to know anyone's opinions of how crossfire has worked for them, and how easy it will be to upgrade to one in the future?

I'd spend the rest on a good heatsink. GTX 470 + a 1055T @ 3.8-4.0GHz would be beastly.

Or for SLI in the future...
