Trying Linux

I've been using windows all my life and want to try something new- LINUX!
Can somebody recommend a version I should get and give me a link to help me start off in the Linux world! I'm totally new and know nothing about linux....

I would only use linux as a secondary OS, though it is fairly secure, I still wouldn't depend on it. Change is security's best friend, it is also insecurity's arch enemy. The original linux's code had 3 million lines, the latest version/kind has i think 15 million lines. The most secure OS is Windows, if used alongside with an antivirus. The only reason I didn't consider mac is because noone should be asking about macs here.

Ubuntu and Suse are very easy distros to start out with. Just google one of them.

That is what I was thinking.... I all ready have windows and I will put linux on it to so when I boot up I can pick which OS to use....

I took this from a post about building a server; hope that it helps.
"I would reccomend Fedora Core 4 (http://www.redhat.com/en_us/USA/fedora/) for the OS. Install Webmin (http://www.webmin.com/) for adding web users and other users."

I have to disagree on that statement. I'm not saying linux is very secure, but no OS is really secure. It all depends on the user or admin of that box. Mac claimed that their OS is so secure but then somebody was able to hack it in 30 minutes ..
