CPU Detection

Thread Starter
OK this all started when using the TEC, it would run fine for a week or so and all of a sudden it began re-sarting at the end of each WU. (no load gets around 10C maybe 25-30 below ambient) I put this down to the cold bug which can be apparent with my 144 opty. The mobo is a DFI LP NF4 SLI-D. Now after taking all of the TEC and water cooling off and have even given it a clean-out with Electronic Cleaner it wont detect the cpu. The socket is dry and clean as if was brand new. Out of every 10 re-sets it will fire up but then crash in bios after a minute or two. I have tried 2 other cpu's in there but no different. A PSU was tried but no go. RAM switched but still no. Tried a different BIOS chip but no different. There was condensation but am thinking it was OK for it was prepped properly. Has anybody got any ideas as to what could be happening. Has the little condensation killed the mobo maybe? 4 red lights is not good.

Just an update on this problem: I think the temperature shutdown in the bios could be causing the complete power off's. When it is disabled it seems to be OK. This seems to be a different problem than the cold bug. It is strange that it still happens even with a bios chip and version change. Has this happened to anybody before? Lots of trouble shooting going on here.

If you've tried all these and it's still kicking the bucket, the only other things to check would be your video card and the hard drive. I'd think that the video card shorting out would be more likely, though, because the hard drive would just give you that it's not detected. Try swapping those out and booting on stock.

If it's not one of those, I'd say the board, like a memory socket or something, is shorting out. That being said, you might want to try just loading one stick into DIMM 1 then testing, move the stick to DIMM 2 then test, etc..

With this board you need to use dimm 2 with only 1 stick (easy mistake), the thing is it is crashing in the bios and then wont even post again, it is all stock. It is all a little bit crazy. It is now sitting in the bios on the temps screen and has been there for about 30 minutes now. I dont want to let it get into windows as I want to see if it can even hold the bios together. I have also tried it with no hard disks or even ram, no vid card at all. It seems to do the same thing. Maybe the mobo is just dying for some reason.

cheers, will work this one out for the next person that comes along with this hassle, I only found one post with a similar problem on the net and they never resolved it???

but I we will
cheers

Drats, just keep dinking with it I guess. Good luck. Btw, you might try re-flashing the BIOS, don't think that would hurt anything.

I put a different bios chip in with a later version but did not make a difference. Better news this morning, at all stockspeeds the thing is still running and folding. I am tending to think there could of been some condensation stuck in the socket with some grease causing the issues. I am not sure though as condensation is not "supposed" to conduct well at all.
