Cooling my northbridge chipset.

The original set up is a thermal pad, small aluminium heatsink and a very noisy fan.

Obviously, I want to get rid of that fan .
I was wondering which of my options were the best.
So if you would, please comment :

1 :
Artic Ceramic
Small Copper Heatsink (no idea where this is from lol)

2 :
Artic Ceramic
Medium Alumiunium Heatsink (p1 100mhz cpu heat sink)

3 :
Artic Ceramic
Big Aluminium Heatsink (stock HS for my amd 3200)

My case airflow is good. I'll have my Big typhoon not far from it and a case slow rpm case fan on the same level.

Should any of these solutions be good enough for passive cooling?

If not maybe I can find a low rpm fan somewhere to attach to it.

I wish I knew a way to volt mod the actual fan, but I don't . Those three pinned connectors leave me clueless to lowering the voltage except through the use of an adapter.

In this situation option 1 and 2 are going to be easier to install. Because of size and also because of shape. My big amd stock HS would be hard to install. I could manage with the others though.

So, any suggestions ?

Yes I know and it's really cheap.

This is, I try to ghetto things out when I can. Plus, I don't have the mounting holes requiered.

So if I'm about to buy a HS and mod it's installment .. why not do it with the heatsinks I already have at hand ?

Why ask if you're going to "ghetto" it?
Hmmm...?

My ghetto mod for this is still using the original HS mine is not that bad, give it a bit of lapping though. Piss off the piddly little fan on it (get it doing duty on the other side of the mobo blowing onto the CPU), I have a 62mm fan lying around and eat a small tub of yoplait yoghurt...
Cut most of the bottom out of the tub - it may take a few tubs to find the right compromise for air flow/plastic bending due to weight of fan. And don't forget to leave some tabs for the screws (make sure to use some washers.
If your fan don't fit the top, zip ties do wonders. Add some spray paint and you now have one ghetto northbridge cooler. I'd imagine the tunnelling affect of the yoghurt tub may also give better results than not.

Gave this one a bit of thought over the last day or so, planning on getting it done either tonight or tomorrow; so I'll keep you posted on the results!

OK just did a bit more tinkering, jimmied up the above n'bridge fan with the yoghurt container. Well it worked, but god damn it looks ugly. All the same here are the results:-
System had two fans at front, one side inlet and a top exhaust blowhole.
CPU 49C idle 53C load @4400rpm, system 39C steady

Added rear exhaust fan, removed excess metal from case where rear exhast fan and front inlet fans are, lapped n'bridge and HS plus CPU HS (AS5 as always), ghetto cooler on northbridge as described
CPU 39C idle 41Cload @4000rpm, system 30C idle 32Cload

Got the ****s with the wiring, the extra noise and just the ugliness of the thing so put back on the original n'bridge fan.
CPU 42C idle 46Cload @4000rpm, system 34C idle 36Cload

Well there you have it folks, if you don't mind the great bid plastic yogurt tub in the mobo go for your life, cause there's quite a few degrees to gain from it. At the very least lapping + AS5 would have to be the cheapest easiest way to get the temps down at the very least; give it a go!
