Fermi issues: Low GPU Usage and Bad Company II Stuttering - Page 42

ATI's challenges have been with the 10.6 and 10.7 driver releases. However in their case:

a) they fixed it with the 10.8a release

b) you could always use the 10.4a and 10.5 drivers and get excellent performance.

With Nvidia, there is no older driver that resolves the hitching and low gpu usage issue.

My 5850's and 5870's provide a much (and I mean much) smoother gameplay experience than the GTX470's. Sure the nvidia cards provide higher framerates in game than my crossfired 5850's (although its not much) but the hitching makes the game almost unplayable.
That is what I'm talking about. ATI users had to wait months for it to get fixed with 10.8a. 10.7 was a fix for starcraft II. Even 10.6 gave better results then 10.7 in some games. Expecting customers to uninstall and reinstall drivers when they want to switch games is unacceptable. Much less, expecting "normal" users that don't overclock or spend hours reading forums and review sites to even know which driver version to use.

So keeping the game broken like Nvidia is better?

Look, they both suck. Just buy a 360 and you won't have to worry about drivers ever again.

Hang on, so the stutter fix was in the new drivers? Why the hell do games still stutter then?

I'm as pissed as you bro. My 8800gt gets better fps than my GTX460@913 with 1xAA.
But at least it's confined to a few games like BC2/Mafia 2 and their SLI scaling is still fantastic. Enabling SLI-AA in control panel fixes AA gpu usage but for single cards: SOL.

There's no reason that the GPU shouldn't be running at 99% unless you're pegged at 200fps already. Nvidia trying to blame your pc and saying it's CPU limited when you're under 70% usage is nonsense. At least my GTX460s in SLI still compare pretty close to 5870s in Xfire(and costing half as much):

and these 460s were only 810/1600/1000

Stuttering occurred even on single cards. The new leaked driver seems to fix the issue for single cards though.

Unfortunately SLI/CF will always have stuttering, if it's not on this game it will be in another one. Personally I think most stuttering issues depend on system and game settings though
