There seems to be more than just raw clock speed that the affects them(600 mhz difference). The i7 architecture really is better.
I'm definitely going to be getting a 980x ASAP.
Of course it is better lol. But the issue isn't the number of frames we are getting, it's the percent utilization of the GPU. I can fall back to a 9800GTX and get better frame rates than I can with my 470 at some settings. To have such low GPU utilization out of a Phenom II/Core i5/i7 is ridiculous. Especially when they're overclocked. Clearly, the i7 is NOT the culprit give the results imtmthepro has had with his i7 and 480.

Well, to be fair, unless you've tried your 470 in an i7 @ 4ghz, I wouldn't be so sure that your Phenom isn't holding it back. And what I care about is which card can give me more fps with the most features for equal or cheaper price.

And I don't want to turn this into an AMD VS Intel discussion, but even the Phenom II 1090T gets smoked by an i7 920 @ 4.2 which was released back in Nov 08... Almost 2 years ago.

I agree wholeheartedly. The i7 is far superior. However, how is it that my 1055T @ 3.85 can utilize every ounce of power that a 5870 has to offer, but yet it cannot utilize my 470 to it's full potential? I have used my rig with my roommates 5870 and I got 99-100% utilization regardless of the in-game settings.

My point is that it isn't the processor that is the culprit bottleneck. Of course an i7 will allow for higher FPS, but a 4GHz Phenom II or C2Q should not bottleneck a Fermi when it doesn't bottleneck a 5870.

Heck, even when I had a 465, I wasn't getting 100% utilization.

I think the problem isn't that your Phenom lacks the ability to fully utilize a Fermi card, but rather, Nvidia's drivers not performing as good as they should on anything other than an i7. Even developer's remarks on Nvidia's forums are telling people that a C2Q @ 4ghz is bottlenecking a single 470/480.

Clearly ATI's cards don't have this i7 preference and have properly coded their drivers for their own AMD Phenoms.

I agree. I think nVidia will soon be absorbed into the mass that is Intel and this is just a test to prove to Intel that nVidia can play dirty to skew buyers toward Intel CPU's...

/sarcasm

Lol... I do think that nVidia's drivers need a lot of work though. It's inexplicable that a 5870 can be maxed out on Phenom II's and C2Q's and Fermi's just limp along.

If it weren't for the good deal I got on this 470 and the sexxx that is the cooler on it, i would unload and jump to a 6950 in a month.

Just got rid of the GTX470 SLI and put in the 5870. This game is now micro stutter free and i have a steady game play, really smooth and great fps, maxed out!

Better than before, at least it goes up to 99 even though it's not stable...

the end part where it was a straight line was me spending some time in the spawn menu...
