When is the projected Conroe release date? - Page 3

Well a 20 to 40 percent improvement in speed is phenomenal for a new platform. I can't remeber this kind of performance increase in past releases. This is great for us.

As far as AMD they are keeping very close mouthed about what their new cpu will contain. This is smart as they have now seen what Conroe can do (with preproduction mb/chipset/drivers) and they can adapt AM2 accordingly.

We know that AM2 using DDR 2 667 is not much faster than current technology. But by not stating which fsb's they will be supporting AMD has left room for changes/improvements. http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/02/...rm/page13.html

A lot of speculation that they will have to include support for ddr2 1000 or higher and/or ddr3 to match the performance increase Intel has shown.

I bet we see the new AM2 platform pushed back to 3rd or 4th quarter to finalize any changes necessary. If at all possible AMD will and can not allow Intel to regain the performance advantage for long.

I'd say not even using DDR2 800.

Now, my other theory is that a 333fsb will not take that much advantage either, if that's what the next CPU's will be, as speculated. My opinion, they need to move that IMC away from the CPU as it shows no performance gain will ever be seen, unless DDR2 CAS 2-2-2-5 comes out but we know that'll never happen.

I don't know about that... I'd never say never when it comes to technology...

tbh, AMD is a great company, and went the right way, but i think that they *will* get buried by Intel R&D. AMD doesn't have the money to burn like Intel does. We'll see how long it takes Intel to catch up to where AMD is now. AMD's architecture is much more mature and should be able to put up a fight, but AMD does need something new. They're definetly pulling all-nighters right now.
