an X6 at 4GHz easily does 12/13k on SMP and the possibility of running -bigadv and i5 do not....

Edit: The thing to keep in mind is that I really don't SMP fold (just not my cup of tea). I generally just OC and tinker with my CPU, if that. i5 would leave me room to upgrade to higher i5s/sell it and go to i7, which aren't changing right now. With AMD, if I wanted to upgrade I'd have to wait on BullDozer/AM3 (right term here correct?).

Bulldozer will be AM3+ so none of the boards out now would be compatible once it's released. All the AM3 chips will work on the AM3+ boards but it won't work the other way.

Ah ok, that's where I was getting lost. Again, I'm not hip to anything AMD, lol.

AWG, what are your thoughts on the i5/X6 thing, seeing as you have both intel and amd rigs.

I prefer AMD due to the pricing. The black edition chips are easy to OC. Honestly the only reason I have the i7 is for bigadv folding.

You can get a good AMD x4/x6 rig for a pretty good price. There's no real upgrade path on either side due to the new architectures that will be coming out with the new generation of chips being designed. That's really the reason I'm holding out for Bulldozer at this point in time. Hopefully they produce good results and I can fold bigadv better on it than I can with my i7.

Nice post mate.

'Twill have to ponder that. I've just always been on the Intel side of things. But it does seem that with my conditions and price range AMD is a viable option (since I won't be folding much)...

Also, +1 to you two.

Perhaps. What are some good OC'ing boards on the AMD side? Any Gigabytes?

Also, team, I'm selling two 80gb sata HDDs. Please buy them.

Love, Repo.

I don't know about on the Gigabyte side, all my AMD boards are MSI. I know that the 790FX-GD70 does really well for my X6 and it has 4 PCI-E slots on it. Not sure what you're requirements are in that department though. Well I take that back, I do have a Gigabyte board for my Athlon but I haven't tried OC'ing it at all. It's a mATX board too. The BIOS seems to be about the same as my UD3 on my i7 IIRC. I'll have to find the box to remember which one it is.
