Brass Bottom Boys - Page 12

Ok I just checked the Stanford site after an update and it doesn't show anything for that pass key. I'm gonna give it a day or something. Let me know what you guys want to do. I say just wait to see if its a little behind on the stanford servers. I don't mind waiting so I guess its all up to you guys my team mates.

Just let it do its thing until tomorrow when (hopefully) Stanford can get back to Zodac and let us know something.

Aye me captain (sorry I couldn't resist, pirates are the S&^$ just don't be a butt Pirate )

I had a problem the last few days with my computer restarting in the middle of the night when Im in bed but I think I fixed that with a registry edit for the windows update so that when it updates it doesn't restart on it's own anymore (it will still ask you to restart I think but it wont restart unless you do it.) let me know if any of you are having similar problems and I can give you a hand (I'm pretty sure that since you have all been folding a long time that you already have done it but I figured I'd ask anyways just in case)

Yea I just tell mine to inform me of updates but not to install them or anything, lol. I've had windows updates get me one too many times, sneaky thing.

Yeah Microsoft did improve the Auto Update a lot in Windows 7 but unless you change the settings your still screwed lol.

Hey I have a folding question real fast. Does me having 12 GB of ram benefit me more , Folding wise that is, than only having 6 GB (all the ram is running at the same speeds with the same latencies for both 6 GB or the 12 so the speed of the ram or the latencies is not a factor in this) The reason that I ask is because when I bought the components for this computer I bought 2 X 6 GB (3 X 2 GB) kits of ram but had to RMA one (because Corsair QC isn't what it used to be lol) and they just put it in the mail to come back to me today. So I'm wondering if I will see a noticeable difference folding with the 12 GB? Also (cross your fingers) I saw that I am getting 2 separate boxes back from them (with separate tracking #'s) so I might even end up with an extra 6 GB kit of DDR3 2000 9-9-9-24 ram .

I got my GTX 480 OC'd finally without any artifacts or WU failures now. Since my core and shaders are locked together (and I believe that they are on all fermi cards but don't quote me) i have it OC'd to:

Stock------------------OC'd
725MHz-----Core------830MHz
1450MHz---Shader---1660MHz
950MHz----Memory----1060MHz

So now since I went up 210MHz on the shader I should pull quite a bit more on the folding so wish me luck I might try for more a little later but im not gonna push my luck since im at 82c full load 100% fan (even though they can handle it so I might go until it's about 6c warmer then stop OC'n)

I don't think you'll see any difference in time per fold with the extra 6 gigs. From what I've read over at foldingforum.org bigadv units only utilize about .5 gig per core. There's still some debate about if tighter timings make a difference but I leave mine the way they are.

Biggest thing is to get it where you're comfortable folding with it. One thing to take into consideration is that some WU's are more intensive than others. I know I have a GTX 260 that I could push to 1728 shader clock but it wouldn't fold the 450 WU's and crash all the time. Granted that's all GPU2 and I'm know nothing of GPU3 but I'm sure the same can still hold true. You'll know for sure if you've hit the wall when you make a bump in the OC and insta crash the client. Done that a time or a dozen.

Well I got the settings from another OCN Member who folds on his and he only has the regular GTX 480, Mine is the Superclocked version for one and 2 I went a little under his settings just to make sure that I wont have any problems. I didn't run any burn in tests because I figure whats better at stressing a GPU than full load for 24 hours of folding lol. Im gonna just let it fold for a while and see if I get any failures and if so go a little less. Hopefully I see a huge increase in PPD. As it stands with all 3 Clients I am estimated to make 32,135 PPD but that goes down a lot when the WU is actually done. As for my GTX 480's estimated PPD is 16,500 and that seems to be pretty accurate its my SMP PPD estimates that only seem to go down. My GTX 480's estimate went up from just over 14,000 before I OC'd to the 16,500 so that is a considerable increase of 2500 PPD just from a 200MHz increase in shader clock.

Ok sorry guys I had to shut down the machine for a couple of hours to re run some wires because I was getting horrible air flow to my cards but now its all neat and awesome but it took longer than expected to finish especially since I broke a bolt off of my GPU bracket and had to drill it out and replace it. So I should see a few degrees drop in temps because I had a birds nest of wires everywhere before (which I should have just put nicely the first time but you live and you learn) HAF X is unbelievable for cable management. Good night and I hope that It posts soon or the fermi slot will be useless for everyone in this competition and I'll be outta Folding job. It would suck to get fired on my second day.
