You should be able to just use VMWare Player if you're only gonna be running one VM, you can include a shortcut to the vmdx (??) file in your Startup and it will automagically boot the VM up..link for VMPlayer:

Nay for linux for me as well. I've never read anything that said the GPU clients gain anything in linux (at least not anything worth switching over for). Does anyone have concrete evidence of this? If so, I could probably be convinced to try a VM setup. I have a dual core that's capable, and I tinkered with VMs before.
I think there's a guide in Nate's link above (in Z's guide - you could always click the link s/he has in their sig too) regarding HFM.

IDK whether Linux takes a hit on all GPU Folding, or just for nVidia cards. Whether you would be best off Folding in M$ or Linux would depend entirely on your clients...it could be that the GPU hit would be covered by whatever gain you'd get on your CPU; but you could always run Linux in a VM and Fold on the GPUs in M$ anyway, for the "best of both worlds"...

I'd like to get some sort of remote monitoring setup on mine easier than remote teamviewing from my evo to make sure all is well. Sometimes it hangs and FahCore closes. I just close it, it auto reopens and continues on with no problems....weird? I'd say so.

Zodac, Do you know if VM Linux folding will benefit Repo in folding on his 275 or not? I can't imagine that it will too much. I think that it helps Fermi cards more than any other and you see the highest increases in SMP and -bigadv CPU folding. Correct me if I am wrong there please.

@Repo, If you want, I can help you setup HFM.net and the monitoring web page so that not only can we calculate from it here but you can check your client when you are away from home. It doesn't take long at all to setup. Let me know and we can schedule a Teamviewer session for me to come do it for you really fast. I'm gonna PM you real fast because I need to ask you something non BBB related but up your case mod alley.
I've got it on a sticky on my monitor. I'll set it up sometime in the next few days, lol. No need to team view, I can follow the guide. Thanks bro!

No one HAS to do it at all. I was just asking if the people that benefit from it could do it. You guys are ultimately the ones that decide if you do or don't want to do it. It's your computer after all right? I'm just trying to get the most points as possible for our team.

Edit: so my ISP sucks. I have a local company and they outsource there internet, home phone, and some high definition channels ( I know right? When exactly do they do?) And I woke up this morning to 4 out of 5 clients shut down because we had no internet. I called them and apparently, none of Washington state has internet and all of Oregon and Washington have no cable, home phone, or high definition channels. Hopefully they fix it soon.

Is it just not getting DNS (which a lot of ppl mistake for there being no webz) or has it all gone..?

There's a sticky in the Networking section, "How the web works" or something like that, and there are a couple of guides I wrote for one of my former employers on there (they're attached to one of my posts, but they're also included [copy-pasted] into an earlier post in that thread too) for WAN troubleshooting.........

No, it was my ISP. I called them and they told me that the company that they used to provide internet was having a problem state wide with there fiber optics and it caused a state wide outage so that they could fix the issue. Sounds like they had a issue at the main node for Washington state. They got it fixed really fast though so it's not that bad and it looks like they took the opportunity to upgrade the equipment because my DL and UL speeds are much faster and much more stable now. Before I would be lucky to get 18 meg DL and 2 meg UL (which is what I pay for and would only get it at like 3 am lol) but now I'm averaging speeds over 20 meg DL and over 3 meg UL (and that's even during peak hours. You guys, if you ask me something on here today, don't feel bad if I don't get back to you until tomorrow. It's my 5th wedding anniversary today so I'm going to be spending the whole day catering to my wifes every whim. Have a great day guys.

Yikes! That's a lot of service interruption, lol. Glad to hear they got it all straightened away though Nate.

My GTX 570 just got here guys so if my motherboard (Gigabyte EX58-UD4P) and CPU (low voltage core i7-920) get here today then ill install it right afterwards but if not then ill shut down for a few and install it. Expect a slight drop in ppd for my i7 but my overall ppd should go up by about 15k.

Sounds great! Wish I had some cash I would order a 6970 to churn and burn on to also increase my PPD....gotta love being a somewhat broke college student
