Brass Bottom Boys - Page 22

I'm going to say that from what I've read on foldingforum.org in the last few days is that ram timings aren't as important to bigadv as pure clock speed. That may change but sitting at 4.0 is more important at the moment than ram timings from what I'm understanding.

Yeah well I need to do something about my CPU temps soon. I hit a peak of 86c today with maybe a 68f ambient, Its rediculous. Maybe I have too much TIM in there cause I just changed it out recently when I needed to re seat the v10. I'm looking to sell the set of ram and my v10 and get a nice cheap (but good) water cooling loop so I'm thinking that if i sell the 2 i might get $280 back for them and then I can get some small water cooler for this. Hell I might even just settle for a better air cooler because this thing is real picky when it wants to cool well and when it wants to suck at it. Maybe my TEC is dead. Who knows. I'll check it to see. I hope its just something like my TEC came unplugged or something like that.

i'm sure that your high temps also have something to do w/ using the v10, albeit lapped... not only imo but tests have shown that for the price, the v10 isn't worth a pew...

if it were me i would sell the 6gb of ram, actually i would sell all the ram except for 4gb, b/c you really don't need more than 4 unless your encoding or doing a lot of photoshopping, or such

so imo sell the ram, sell the v10 (might be hard), get a decent wc loop, and profit!!!

That's what I am trying to do now but I wanted to get your guys' opinion on how much I should sell them for. I'm gonna keep the 12 GB of ram because I do a ton of video encoding (well at least I will when I stop folding 24/7 and get to transfering all of my DVD's and Bluray's to my hard drive) and I also do quite a bit of photo editing for all of my childrens photo's to send to the family. So its not a question of what to sell just a question of what's the most that you think that I can get for the ram and cooler? I want to see how much $$ I will have to work with to build my Water cooling loop with. I think that I can sneak a spare hundred or 2 extra pass the wife so I should have close to $500 (if I can get close to $300 for the 2 items) and that should make a nice system for my CPU and might be able to get a block for my GTX 480 too while I'm at it.

i would say $280 sounds reasonable for the v10+ram... and w/ $500 bucks you could make a pretty nice loop

Well I was gonna post it on the for sale thread but apparently I need 29 more rep before I can post anything on there

4GB? on an i7? he needs 6gb for Triple channel....
Could be like an i7 860, with dual channel RAM?

I don't think dual/triple makes a huge difference for SMP, but it does for -bigadv.
