I get the error in the title every time I try to run F.E.A.R. and its really bugging me, I installed the game this morning, it ran fine and I even benched it at maxed settings, then I updated it to the latest version and now I get this error, I uninstalled and reinstalled it and still get the error, what's up? Has anyone gotten this before?

For some reason now the game works but everything is REAL slow, even if I set all settings to minimum I still only get 4FPS in the video test! WTH is going on! Somebody please help.

Make sure you have all virtual drives and emlulators turned off before playing. That solved the authentication error for me.

Have you updated the firmware for your drives lately and do you have DMA enabled for your hdd? I too have the DVD version, but as for the lagging im guessing its something to do with the encryption. Do you have CloneCD or AnyDVD running in the background? Sorry if these ideas seem sporadic, just tossing things out there.

Negative on your suggestions, but get this...I installed it this morning and it ran great, infact it did seem to have this same problem but instead of being capped at 4FPS it was at 60 (my refresh is 75 so it wasn't vSync) then I updated and that seemed to screw it up but I uninstalled, reinstalled and tested it without the update and now I always have it capped at 4FPS. Maybe there's some way to get into the console to fix it? Do you know how to get into FEAR's console?

you could go to www.gamecopyworld.com and download the .exe file for FEAR so you don;t even need a CD or DVD to be authenticated....
