From what I hear 1.03 is a useless upgrade and you shouldnt upgrade if you dont have to.

Now that you've got it working again, let me ask you... (and I'm sorry I was of no help to you, btw)

Have you experienced a lower frame rate with it, with the 84.21 drivers?

Mine have dropped significantly with this driver update.

Well its back to not working but I have some more info. When I open My Computer and the FEAR disc is in the icon for my DVD drive turns to the FEAR eye logo thing. The way I got it to work was I would open the DVD drive, double click the FEAR shortcut, it would say "no dvd inserted" and then I would stick the DVD in and click retry and it would work. However I noticed that now when I do that the icon for my DVD drive changes but NOT to the FEAR logo, it says DVD-ROM and just has this lame generic DVD logo.....so clearly there is some problem with secuROM or something not working too well with my DVD drive. Anyone have any suggestiong? Whatisfear.com's support was no help though they did have a topic on this exact problem with secuROM it didnt work for me.

Also, the last time I played FEAR was with my X800XL on the Cat 5.11 drivers so I have no idea, I had already installed the 84.21 before I installed FEAR.

heres what I got:

Problem:
Issues with SecuROM copy protection and related disk read errors.
If you encounter a message that is similar to (but not limited to) one of the following:
"No disk inserted"
“Wrong Disc inserted. Please insert the original disc into your CD/DVD drive.â€
"Unable to authenticate disk within time limit"

Solution:
Some systems may encounter various conflicts with the SecuROM copy protection that is placed on the F.E.A.R. program disk(s).
This may be related to a conflict between your system and SecuROM.

*Please make sure the original CD/DVD is in the drive when launching the game, because copies or backups can cause errors. For the CD version of F.E.A.R, ensure that disk number five (5) is inserted.

*Please try running the game from your other CD/DVD/CD-RW drive if you have more than one drive.

*Use MSCONFIG to close applications at startup, and then try the game again.

also again ill repeat: firewire upgrade, some firewires where specficly for this type of error.
Also try updating your video/sound drivers I heard that it might be a source of the problem although I dont see the relation.

Just a couple of things to point out:
1) He has the dvd edition, not the cd version that has 5 discs
2) I think you mean firmware

Hope this gets solved soon!
