USB cables help!

Thread Starter
Hi ive got ISDN (128k) internet and its a usb modem. its connected downstairs on my mums computer. i was just wondering how long a usb cable could get before there is a significant amount of data loss because i plan to set up my new computer in my room upstairs. I know i could use a network cable and get my net through there but that means that mums computer would have to be on and connected for me to have the net. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Can you not move the modem upstairs? Does your modem have a regular lan port? If so get a router and use that.

Maybe 6 feet. I'm only guessing since I've never seen anything longer.

6 feet but theres a thing called a usb repeater that increases the strength of the signal so you can go higher than that..
I saw a show on tv about it but it was a while ago.
