newbie. can i overclock this system? weird.

Thread Starter
I've read most faq's and a dozen other articles but was stumped when I saw this. A P4 2.4"F"? I haven't been able to find info on this anywhere. Can I overclock with this chip?

Also, when I purchased the system (second hand), it came with the following RAM:

Slot 1: 512Mb PC2700 @ 166MHz
Slot 2: 256Mb PC3200 @ 200MHz
Slot 3: 256Mb PC2300 @ 142MHz

I assume this will effect whether or not I can overclock/how much.

Any help greatly appreciated.

You bought the system from a store prebuilt/ If so it cant be overlcoked using the bios unless you had the mobo replaced.

You can overclock if you have unlocked bios, but if i were you i wouldnt overclock until you get a good cooler, sure you can overclock with a stock fan/HS but not very high. You can also over clock Store bought PC's with clockgen if you really want to over clock i would use it over anyother program.

P4B533 mainboard. Wasn't purchased from a store. Bought it from a private seller who built it himself. Have 2 case fans + heatsink and CPU fan that comes with processor. My ram setup isn't an issue with overclocking?

Well, it can be overcloked, but if you dont know timings, etc. It mgiht be hard to get a good oc. If you have a money ill suggest some ram.

Thank you for the replies. Care to elaborate a little? (I'm slow/new)

Well, all the different ram have different running speeds, and im pretty sure you can only run all of em at the same speed, so it would stop the better performing ram from performing to its full potential. Heres some great ram:

And if your not on a budget:

Well ram will help, but about the CPU

Yes that CPU will overclock VERY well. I haven't heard an "F" one before, but I know a 2.4AE can go all the way to 4.15Ghz so you're good to go

What can I do before I get new RAM? I'll pick some up next weekend.

And what cooling/RAM suggestions can anyone make? I HAD planned on upgrading my mainboard/processor, but if I can just upgrade my cooling and ram instead and overclock the hell out of it, I'll do that instead.

Thanks again.
