when it goes into BIOS, and after some cues (youre getting the F1 etc, cues right?) and when it would usually begin to go to Win... does the monitor shut off?

ok...NOW, put the bootdisk back in the tray and start it over. See what happens then, but don't select repair...do select (or LEAVE at) "Win will start in 29...28..27 etc until it gets to zero--wait a few minutes (say3) and see if anything happens. You havent lost your drive yet if you didn't install.

One addition: Looks like you're going to be a bit on this, so do you have another old HD laying around that you can use temporarly. Even a little on will work as long as you system supports it. That saves your older data. Maybe you can remove the drive with the coveted files and back it up on a friend, instructor or local shop's computer? With another drive, just begin to eliminate all the possible hardware conflicts...making sure your bios is back in default mode...the board disk might help that. keep in touch. you'll get it if ya don't get frustrated and start pushin all kindsa buttons.
