Is the copper on my zalman suppose to get hot while cpu is loading?

Thread Starter
I have a serious heating problem... my cpu reaches 90celcius.

Most ppl says it's because my zalman isn't properly seated.

I think so too. Just to make sure however, is it normal that when my cpu is at 85 celcius the copper of my zalman is at about my room temp? Is it suppose to be hot? Like hurting hot?

Do you use thermal paste? And are you sure the paste is all over the CPU?

mmm, take the heatsink off and re-seat it using a dob of thermal paste and see if there is a change.

Wait...your Pentium 4 reaches 90 Celcius??!?!?!? Dude by that temp your CPU will have smoked and possibly exploded, and not to mention that anything above 70 will have a serious thermal threshold that will severly underclock your CPU. I'm assuming you have a Prescott, so it should not even go above 60 at max. Maybe a software error? Did you check the BIOS temps and did you phyiscally touch the heatsink to see if its that hot? (Because at 90C, you will get a serious burn). I would take a thermometer and put it on the heatsink to see if the temps are read correctly.

What are your temps with the stock cooler?
