I just looked at a high resolution picture of the back of the card on Newegg and it looks like the holes match up perfectly. Which they should really, because it's for a reference PCB. The problem is, the holes that the backplate are supposed to use are holes that should be unused after the WB is installed.....I think.

So I'm just assuming that longer screws would hold the backplate and cooler in place. I think 3-4 of the holes that it requires aren't used as it is. I'd be more concerned about the fit because the Twin Frozr II has some kind of lip wrapping around the back of the card.

While a backplate with no hole still in it (unlike the evga backplate) might help a sitch like mine, it's not going to help for people with no gap between cards ... it's just going to make less clearance for the top fans to get air. Probably not a logical tradeoff.

All I'm saying is that I'm guessing the top card is going to get quite hot on setups where there's no gap. It's quite a bit hotter even on mine even with two spaces between.

I'm deducing that this is the case at least in part due to the blowhole. I can feel quite a bit of very warm air coming out the bottom hole, and the top hole is cranking out heat of a nature that you can't hold your hand there for any length of time. At least not when running OC scanner.

It's not creating absurd temps when run vantage (max on top card was 86, which is fine), but when running OC scanner my top card was hitting 93C last night, and that's at stock 470 clocks and only .988V. Although that was on auto fan, but still ... the top card was getting up to like 85% fan speed and it was quite audible, so it's not all the fan profile at work here.

Danny I'm thinking you should try it, you can always flash back and return the cards if you want if you're not happy. To me it's very livable, I'm not that concerned with cranking voltage and getting big OC's. And like I say the temps running Vantage were not bad at all, it's really just Kombustor or OC Scanner that light it up like an xmas tree.

Myself, I'm probably going to re-TIM and lap these bad boys, and try to figure out a good way to cover the blowhole, maybe get a fan hole cut in my side panel possibly, if I discover that side fan's help the temps (I still have my old side panel with the fans to test with).

Lot of good info in this thread, backplates could help solve the heat situation in some cases, but nothing is going to make it as cool as a reference cooler pushing the hot air out the rear.
I wanna see more gold edition pr0n pics in here!

I really want to slap an EVGA backplate on mine, if it can fit. Users have reported an average of 5 degree drop from the backplate on their reference EVGA 470s.

I thought about the clearance and the top card having even less room for intake, but honestly, I think preventing the hot air from being blown directly on the top card would make a big difference. We'll see what happens, I guess.

I installed a side fan in my Window so hopefully that will do some good. I'll update the thread with my temps when I actually get the cards.

Congrats Two cables! Glad you like it.

Brettt, I went home at lunch and ran some vantage. With the fan set up to 1% to 1C profile temps on the top card dont go about 73. I can live with that. I would still like to have your help flashing the cards. Ill give a call tonight. Unless temps get to be too crazy and or the performance was better the 5850's I think I am going to keep these
