I ran with the stock 465 bios a couples of days because of the bsod I was having but I was not so happy with the performance so I decided to try the ov480m bios to see if I have more luck! So far so good, i ran some benchmark and i had no problems this time. My vantage score went to 12887 to 16280 ! Im happy now with this 26% performance increase and I hope it will be stable this time. Thx for this bios again.

I'm sitting at 1.000V, rock stable at 715/1750 (volts and clocks forced via modded stock msi 470 bios), I've had zero issues with any game or test I've tried so far, these cards run cooler and make much less racket than my SLI 480's did, and there's really no difference in terms of the 'feel' of any game I've played so far. Sure, benchies are down a bit, but ... gameplay pretty much seems exactly the same, so ... no complaints.

Less noise, less heat, just as good of performance from a practical standpoint ... and when all's done I'm going to recoup about $250 from selling the 2 480's, so ...

With all the talk of troubles, I just wanted to go on record here on this thread and say ... two of these cards, unlocked, in SLI, with proper clocks and voltages set through the bios ... is a SWEET setup. I'm very happy with it, and having no issues at all except that the top card gets a lot warmer than the bottom card. But that's to be expected with coolers like these.

Two MSI GTX465 GE Twin-Frozr II cards for $259.99 shipped, and flashed to 470's, was a deal made of pure win in my book ... thanks to TwoCables for starting his 'quest' thread, otherwise I mighta missed the chance to get this killer setup

Oh yeah, and one other thing ... I've never enjoyed looking through the window of my case nearly as much as I do now ... these cards are hands-down the sickest looking pair of cards that have ever graced my rig (and there's been a LOT of them over the years).
Nice Brett. I'm glad you are diggin them. I went ahead and cut the mesh out of the bottom of the case and put on the mesh side panel with fan. It lowered peak temps while playing metro by about 8C and also lowered peak temps during Vantage and Heaven by about 5C or 6C degrees as well.

The only bad thing is that I must have not done a great job getting that mesh out of the bottom because now that fan is making a terrible noise. I will have to go back and get more thorough soon. Thanks for the tips.

I know this is nuts but now I want a new mobo that will be give me some space inbetween cards in SLI and or crossfire. Also it would let me actually OC these cards Any suggestions would be great. Also, whenever you get around to it I would like a bios that would enable me to start card one at .975. I cannot set it to that voltage in AB anymore.

What voltage does that BIOS have? I might try some things when I get home before I send the card off. Newegg offered to pay return shipping and waive the restocking fee, so I think I'm doing pretty good if I decide to RMA.

Mine's arriving tomorrow. If you put a standard GPU block (MCW80) on this, what type of cooling does it have for the VRM's and memory?

Of all cards to remove the HSF from....

As for cooling, I'm pretty sure you'd need more than a MCW80 for this card (not up to snuff on water cooling). Once the HSF it looks like there are no heatsinks of any kind.

It's cheap and a fantastic card. It'll have a good resale value too!

And the MCW80 is Swiftech's newest modular GPU block. It keeps my 1066/1210 4890 at 37°C Furmark load and my 1090/1200 5850 at 41°C. I'd be surprised if this thing went above 55°C at 1.2V...

EDIT: In that video he shows exactly what I was looking for He removes a copper plate right at the beginning that cools all the stuff I was asking about.

MSI-Raji does MSI support changing of TIM, etc?

Glad it helped. I noticed the copper plate just then as well. Should get the job done.

I think the warranty is voided when the card is modified in any way. That being said, I don't think they could tell if you put the HSF back on and just applied new TIM.

I assumed the same, but there are a few manufacturers (namely EVGA) who support things like that.

That's good news ... I know you don't want that door on there though ... can't see the cards awesomeness through it But it's good in a pinch.

What's your budget on the board like?

Too bad we didn't know you needed it before, I just sold a fresh from RMA Classified like 2 weeks ago ... woulda gave ya a good deal on it

Sent you the .975 bios by email ... you remember how to do the flash?

You don't have to erase eeprom or mess w/ the drivers this time. Just flash it. Remember the -i0 command to just do the first card. So nvflash -i0 -4 -5 -6 470_1voc.rom and you're done.
