If there is proof I'd like to see it. I have never stated that all cards are unlock-able I just believe that all GE cards have the potential!
If there are true GTX 465s on a PCB with 10 memory chips, then it stands to reason that the memory chips were attached first, and then the GPU was last, not the other way around. Why would they create a card with a GTX 470 chip on it, then put 10 memory chips on it afterward? If they did that, then the card would be able to be flashed to a GTX 470 even though it was manufactured with a GTX 465s BIOS. But since some of them have a GTX 465 GPU on the PCB instead, they will never accept a GTX 470s BIOS.

There are two reasons why one of these cards would not function with a GTX 470 BIOS: either the GPU itself is a true GTX 465, or there are only 8 memory chips (or both).

Linus works for NCIX. He is the one who unlocked all of the cards that they sold which were sold pre-flashed to GTX 470s. He encountered a whole batch that won't accept any GTX 470 BIOS, so that's the way they're being sold on NCIX today.

Additionally, there are many cards in the #0200 range that aren't unlocking.

Finally, I don't know what the big deal is: it's not like MSI guaranteed that all 2500 of these would unlock. But it certainly seemed like every single one of these was a guaranteed unlock because of the way things were going in the beginning. But it's not like that anymore now: today, it's a gamble.

Do I really need to spend the time searching through this thread for proof? I mean, is it that important? I mean, so what? Some of them don't unlock. Why would I lie about this? What would I gain by making all of this up?

I was looking at this review of the non GE:
http://www.guru3d.com/article/msi-n4...r-ii-review/17

I'm no expert but isn't that not a bad oc? It surpasses a stock 470.

I'm really into quite vidcards and the 460 Hawk is currently $250 and it has a similar cooler I beleive? That's $75 more and the GE is $105.

Am I wrong to think that the non GE is best bang for buck right now especially for having a twin cooler?

I'm not trying to create an argument just want to make the most of my $$$.

$175 for the Twin Frozr II 465 (non GE) is a steal imo. It's going to overclock really well and is great bang for the buck

for the price ya its not a bad deal. It seems like they are weeding out the 465's since the 460's have been selling real well. I wouldn't be surprised if the prices drop real low.

No I believe you there are a bunch that won't unlock. I know about the NCIX cards. There's just a difference between a true 465 chip and a 470 chip with faulty SP's that need to be locked out with a 465 bios in order to work. If they all have 470 chips faulty or not that gives them the potential. thats all I was saying. So anyways we are dragging on this way to long.

Well, it just sounded like you were trying to say that all 2500 should be able to unlock as long as enough effort is put into it. I mean, all I wanted to say was that it's more of a black & white thing: if they don't unlock, then they never will.

depends on what u want. do u want to OC this urself? or start with an OC'd bios? grunions worked well for me but many people liked the MSI stock 470 clocks and OC'd manually from the 470 starting clocks.

a working bios is just trial and error, grunions worked fine on my 1st card(#1692) but cant even post on my second one (#1698) so its just keep trying different ones till you find one stable that works right for you.
