So this confirms what rangerscott said about his note from NCIX. I asked about the similarities between the GE cards and the regular 470. He said that they had the same PCB layout. I then asked about the similarities between the GE's and the regular twin fozr II 465, he confirmed that they have a different PCB layout. So I asked if they would support a specific 470 bios for the 465 GE he said no they most likely would not. Also dig this, while talking about flashing to a 470 he said that they have a whole thing dedicated to this on Overclock.net. So the MSI tech rep actually advised me to come to this page lol. last question I asked why we haven't seen any numbers over 2000 yet and if he knew if certain ones were dedicated to specific regions. He said he'd be back and after a minute or so he said that they did not have any info on this.

Good talk!

Well, it's official then. I'm keeping my card Might search for a second one soon. I need a new monitor first. This one only does 1680x1050.
In progress.

Flashed to GTX470 with bios 70.00.1A.00.03. 607/1215/1625 with an 8800GT 512mb OC (stock).

Batman benchmark avg 73 FPS

Res: 1920x1080
Settings: Very high detail, everything else on high
Anti: 2X
Physx: High

*edit*

Fired up Steam and it looks like Metro is updating. Maybe it'll work now and I can get some benchmarks. It been downloading for a minute now at 125k/bs and it still hasn't hit 1%. Must be a big update.

@ranger

Might be your voltage, whats it set to? Only weird thing that has happened to me was some really bad artifacting in FEAR2 cause I had all my settings in nvidia control panel set on high reset them to default and all was well.

I've noticed that my fan profile in afterburner will only work when the app is open. So I just have it start with windows minimized. If there's a way around it I'm interested.

[EDIT] ya that update to metro via steam fixed it I lost my saved game though cause it kept freezing when i would load. had to start over

962mV. Just as if it had the 465 bios. Once I dropped the ram speed, I havent had a single problem. Batman and L4D2 are the only two games I've played on both cards so far. I need to play Bad Company 2 since I see a lot of problem threads on this game and gtx400's.

At 5%. Damn, is it downloading the whole game again? LOL I'll have to remember to make a back up copy of this version once it's down. I have cable and it still sucks to download games through steam. There's got to be some kinda of bandwidth cap they put on people.

well its a 470 know try upping the voltage. mines set at the highest it will let me without editing the bios themselves, or switching to one that someone else has unlocked already.

@krazzymoose

I also have to say, that sounded like a great chat you had with the MSI rep I'm glad they are open about the truth about this card and not holding back. Plus not voiding the warranty by flashing the card is amazing. I'm also really starting to like MSI. And yea, funny how he referred you to this thread

Also thanks for asking him about the cards # 2000 and above, I am so curious to find out what's the deal behind that! Too bad he didn't have any info..wonder if he actually didn't or maybe they don't want to disclose something

BTW this new card #0193 kicks major a$&. I have it now running on a 200MHz overclock across the board:

Testbench:

Asus Rampage III Extreme Bios 1004
Windows 7 Professional x64
i7-920 @ Stock Clock - C1E, EIST, and Turbo Disabled
MSI GTX 470 Twin Frozr II Bios

807/1615/1874 @ 1.050v
  • GPU:MEMTEST + GPU:OCCT 10min stable (5 min of which is 'idle' time)
  • Max Temp: 70C
  • Fan 100%

3DMarkVantage ( 'Performance' Setting. Exclude CPU tests )

607/1215/1674 @ 0.925v
  • Graphics Score: 14852.4
  • Jane Nash FPS: 45.8
  • New Calico FPS: 41.1

807/1615/1874 @ 1.050v
  • Graphics Score: 18792.0 --> 26.5% Increase
  • Jane Nash FPS: 57.2 --> 24.9% Increase
  • New Calico FPS: 52.8 --> 28.5% Increase

From what I have gathered, OCCT is the most reliable stability test.

Can someone fill me in on how to properly validate my overclock? Want to post some screenshots for ya'll to enjoy and to inspire people to unlock (I feel ya moose )

Also my card only applys the fan profile when afterburner is running, or else it'll stay at 40%. Also I noticed that the last #0474 card's fan speed auto increased but this new card's fan stays only at 40%, even up to 70c
