Sweet! The instant I hit reply, the UPS guy knocks on my door. Now I'm gonna have to go back and read how to find out if it has 10 chips. Is it possible without removing the cooler?

edit: It's #1408

not sure if you have to hack it with every update or not though. we'll see I guess?

Actually, we are in luck. I posted it a couple of days ago so I was able to find it kind of easily:

Awesome, thanks! I guess I'm got a 10-chipper. I'm hesitant because the box had no tape on it, there was no plastic film on anything. It just felt opened. Not sure if it or not, it was in the static bag but that's all that was on it.

nVidia updated the way their drivers identify your system and decide whether to let you run SLI or not. The newer drivers no longer allow the SLI string hack. Read the sticky here for more information.

I'm not sure why 1408 rings such a bell with me...I can't remember the number of the card I RMA'd. I've searched the thread and I can't find it, I'm going to look through my posts to see if I actually listed my numbers in here.

You're welcome! So now that you know you have 10 memory chips, I say that it's time to attempt flashing it to a GTX 470! But before you do, use NVFLASH to save the current 465 BIOS that it has right now.

As for the packaging: that's normal.

I searched for just "1408" in this thread, and these three posts (his, mine, and yours) are the only ones with "1408".

that's how mine came works just fine though. if the static bag was taped shut and didn't look like it was interfered with you should be golden.

MSI's boxes are just kinda "open." Was the same way when I bought one of those high OC'er GTX260's. Makes it easier to return or look for info on it when in a store. LOL

Guess I should get to flashing my locked one. I'm skeerd.

It's SUPER easy to tell if you have 10 mem chips.

1. Look at the pics of the resistors and compare to yours.
2. Get a flashlight and see if you have 3 mem chips on left and right sides of the gpu. Just keep turning the card to see.
3. Taking off the gpu and mem heatsinks are easy. The gpu heatsink wasn't "glued" on that much and I didnt have to put too much force on it to get it off. That oem crap needs to be replaced anyways. The mem heatsink just pops right off. It uses therm pads.

You should have 3 chips on left and right, then 4 on top.

IF YOUR GPU HEATSINK IS LOOSE.

Don't fret. My first 465 gpu heatsink was very loose even with the screws tight. I just got some plastic washers (hardware store) and put those on with the screws. Tightened the heatsink up nice.
