Yeah, I think the shroud is aluminum or something. It's definitely a metal of some kind.

That being said, mine flashed properly but wasn't functional. Artifacts everywhere and had trouble doing anything 3D.
It's working fine, now. I have seen a few artifacts(I think) when OC or undervolted, but I think its just because it needs fine-tuned. This thing is really voltage hungry it seems.

That's exactly what it was doing. I guess I'm going to have to look into custom fan profiles. For the time being I stuck it @ 100% to see what I can milk out of it. It's barely hit 50C with fan that high.

Alright, I’m starting to cave and I’m considering this card again over the non GE version that’s only $175. I still think this is more on the luxury side but like krazzymoose says if you want a 470 with a nice quite cooler you'll have to pay over $320 for it (after rebate).

Fan noise is important to me so how quite is this thing? If you unlock it to a stock 470 do you have to increase fan speed? Can you overclock it a little without increasing fan speed? Thanks.

Even at 100%, it's quiet in the sense that the characteristic of the sound the fans make is not irritating. It's certainly quieter than the reference cooler! It also dissipates way more heat than the reference cooler which means that it cools much better.

Well, I read two different reviews and they both quote MSI as saying:
Quote:
MSI told us that we could max the core voltage, so that's exactly what we did.
So max with this BIOS is 1087. I put it there and upped the clock to see what I could get with that voltage. Its fine until it hits 73C, then the screen goes blank every time.

I'm not sure my tactics are the best, since I'm new to this... but I made it through heaven with core @775 memory @1960, and its fine in kombuster, but furmark makes it crash at 73C.

Edit: at stock clocks it dies at 80C. Is this normal? I thought they were "good" above that...
