MSI GTX465 Twin Frozr II Golden Edition Owners Club - Page 363

Hey guys. I was just playing a game when my screen locked up. I restarted the computer and now only my top GPU is recognized. Can anyone give me some trouble shooting tips? I reinstalled drivers. The fans are still working on on the bottom card. Thanks, this is no fun.

That's awesome! I ran it twice and got the same exact score! At other clock it usually varies by a few points.

So should I worry about poor stability at 70C+ or is it not a big deal? If my fan keeps it cool enough it shouldn't matter, I just don't know if it is "unstable".

You can pop the heatsink and change the thermal paste. It's just 4 screws. You're not going to void your warranty. Also see if the heatsink wiggles. If it does, then do what I did and use some plastic washers. You want that heatsink contact firmly snug against the gpu heat spreader.

I should say it really was the 8800GT that scored that. LOL

Turn off, take out card, turn on (get into windows), turn off, replace card, turn back on. Windows should see it again and start to install drivers.

Arctic Silver 5 is OK? And yes, the heatsink is wiggly.

There's your problem. Since it's not snug, there is a bad contact. The heat can't transfer properly. Go to lowes/homedepot/wherever and get some plastic washers. I think mine are for #10 scews. You can go ahead and replace the compound, but without the heatsink being snug, you're wasting your time and compound.

Yes artic 5 is good. Since a gpu heat spreader is bigger than a cpu heat spreader, I space out two lines of the compound.

I did exactly what you said and it worked. Thanks so much. I wonder what would have caused that. I hope this isn't a warning of things to come...

If you are getting temps in the 70's, DO NOT change your TIM. I guarantee if you change to AS 5 your temps will get worse. The stock TIM application on this card is really good and the best you can hope for is the match the temps you had in the first place. Many of us here learned the hard way.
