Switch back to 1.6.1 and see if that helps.

2.0 was screwy with the BIOS I used (470 TFr II). Rolled back to 1.6.1 and all went back to normal.

It doesn't re-lock the hardware however.

If the bios is telling the vid card it only has 1024mb of ram, how would it use the rest of the ram. For giggles ill re-unlock the card. Run vantage, then lock it back. Im betting its gonna be a 465 again when its flashed back to a 465.

I'v not seen capacitors under two memory-chips like 470 PCB. So there is no chips on the board.

Flashing.. does anybody flash the 8-chip board?? CUDA cores is unlock?

1st place: #1553. This card was the clear winner on benchmark scores and game benchmarks. It also was stable at 850c-1700s-1750m @ 1.025v.

2nd place: #1416. There was a stand off between 1416 and 1464. After a tally mark off, 1416 pulled ahead. OC stable @ 1.050v

3rd place: #1464. Just a hair behind 1416. Scored higher in Vantage & Metro but not enough to be 1st place loser. OC stable @ 1.050v. Was stable @ 1.037v during vantage but during gaming it wasn't enough.

4th place: #1774. Disqualified. Would not stabilize during overclocking. The board has issued drug testing to commence immediately.

Did start the 1553 & 1416 SLi testing, but got some stormage going on right now.
Ranger, let me know what cards you decide to keep so I can update the spreadsheets.

They both were able to OC pretty well using afterburner.

I have yet to unlock them, but I do have the flash drive sitting in the usb slot just waiting.

I wanted to get a good mix of benchies to compare the cards performance with after I unlock them.

So far I have:
CPU@3.3Ghz.
GPU@stock

CPU@3.7Ghz.
GPU@stock

CPU@3.7Ghz.
GPU@850/1800

CPU@3.7Ghz.
SLI_GPU's@stock

CPU@3.7Ghz.
SLI_GPU's@830/1700

I ran the DX11 Heaven benchmark and vantage at each setting. I have my cards in the 1st 2 slots. The 2nd card reached 84 degrees during vantage/heaven benchmarks when O/C'ed. I may move the 2nd card out to the 3rd slot for now, but wth am I going to do when I go tri?

My setup is:

MSI NF980-G65
AMD PII X6 1055t
G Skill RipJaws 2X2 GB
2X MSI GTX465 Twin Frozr II GE
Seagate 300GB Sata2
CoolerMaster HAF-X
Cooler Master 750w PSU

I will report back with unlocking results and a Definite # for the 2nd card.

I am kind of worried my PSU will be close to max with the cards unlocked, or unlocked and overclocked/volted.

This is part of the reason my cpu is @ 3.7, because I have to volt higher to hit 4.0 and above, and I know the power required increases pretty quickly.

Anybody want to sell me a 3rd card?
I'll be checking back for your post, but it would be greatly appreciated if you could send me a PM when you confirm those numbers.

I would suggest rolling back to an earlier version of Afterburner. Sounds to me like a software issue.

the card you have pictured is not a MSI 465 GE. It is a Inno3D card so if this is your actual card and not just a referenced pic than your outta luck chuck.

yes certain cards with 8 mem chips and a 470 chip can unlock cuda cores just use the asus upgrade tool.

You're missing what I'm trying to say. Let me try to re-state.

- Say the card does have all 10 memory chips.
- The card was binned because memory chips 3 and 8 were "sub-par".
- Card is locked to a 465 with chips 3, 8 and and one more being "locked".

You buy the card. You unlock it. All 10 chips are then "active".

If you decide to lock it back down to a 465 and deactivate 3 of the memory chips, how do you ensure that chips 3 and 8 (the sub-par ones) are part of what get locked back down and not used?

Does that help explain my question?

I doubt they locked certian ones with the bios. If that was written in the bios and you saved the stock bios then it should go back to what it was. I have a hard time seeing this. I could understand a physical hardware lock.

Plus it doesnt matter. Its back to a 465. So msi installed sub par mem chips in locations 3 & 8 on every card.

I doubt every binned card was given that status because they were all sub-par in the exact same way.

My next question would then be: How do they choose what memory and shaders to "lock"? Some of it has to be turned off (hence the card being cut back to a 465), so what (besides the bios) tells the card which part of the 10 memory chips to actually use?

I just unlocked my 2 cards! #'s 1981 and 2159.

I used the "Step-by-Step Unlocking Guide for GTX465 Golden Edition" instructions linked on the first post. So thanks for everyone who contributed.

Now I am off to bench, I will follow up with some pre/post flash benchy scores.
