The c:\
vidia folder just contains the installer. Just so you know ... having that there or not doesn't actually change anything in terms of how windows operates. You never 'have' to delete it either. Just so you know.

For sure, also, if there's a chance that AB is starting up and OC'ing ... what you want to do is start up in safe mode and just rename the c:\\program files\\msiafterburner folder so it won't start up w/windows. Then rename it back once you're in windows, and turn off that feature For sure never use it until you're 100% on OC stability. I don't even use it at all frankly ...

Zip.

Nada.

Nothing.

Same results with new bios. I'm about to throw something (... eyeing the cat) through the window.

The reason for deleting it is to prevent Windows from installing the driver upon bootup after performing the uninstall, going into Safe Mode, sweeping the driver, and then booting normally into Windows. When that folder is left there, that first boot up after using Driver Sweeper also sees the driver get installed. It's better if we do it manually.

I have an offer in for a 470 in the marketplace, might just pull the trigger on that tomorrow

and TwoCables, even when I deleted that folder (every time) windows always found a way to "install" the device before I could even do anything. It always said standard vga device, so I never thought it to be a problem.

Oh, I forgot about the Device Installation Settings in Windows 7!

Meh, it doesn't matter that much though. At that point, we're just being anal.

+1 on this.

I'm sure you can still return that card. Do that. Try not to push your luck on it coz you might end up bricking it permanently. I think I saw amazon still got 1 left so I'd hurry up and get it.

I mean, what are the chances of getting two bad cards respectively?

I bought it from a member here So, no returning it sadly.

That one on Amazon is $325... I think I'll pass. I will just get a reference 470 somewhere and deal with the little extra noise I guess

That sucks, I really feel for you. I almost bought your exact card and I thought it was a shoe in for unlocking compared to the newegg open box I got. I guess you never can tell?

You consider seeing if MSI can do anything or buying it from somewhere else and returning yours in its place? or can you test the card in another pc?
