MSI GTX465 Twin Frozr II Golden Edition Owners Club - Page 465

Well tested each card alone, worked perfectly, tested on both pcie 16x slots, put them back together and the crashes came back, tried 3 different SLI connectors without luck changed PSU cables and still the same.

This issue appears only with Sli enabled that's what makes it weird.
Any BIOS settings that could cause these type of problems??

Update: run Heaven 2.1 benchmark back to back, no crashes, now this is getting weird.

@Ivan TSI

You should PM user 'mdbsat' as I believe he had the same issue but was able to find a solution. It's most likely a setting that was overlooked.

On a side note: I performed the Pencil Mod to my GE. A lot easier than I thought and expected.

Before doing it stock memory voltage was 1.53v idle, 1.54v load. I set it to 1.59v idle and 1.60v load.

Prior to Pencil Mod I was able to reach a max mem clock of 1867MHz. Now I can do 2005MHz 100% stable and can probably even go higher. Card is currently set to GTX 580 specs @ 1.062v

Still testing to see if I can stabilize at 1.050v.

Interesting thing to note was that I was unable to stabilize 772MHz/2005MHz at 1.087v however was able to do it at 1.062v. Clearly shows the detrimental effects of heat:

@1.087v Max Temp 83c before system crash a little after 3 mins.
@1.062v Max Temp 78c at the end of 10 min OCCT test (Actual 5 min).

Only downside is that before the card did 772MHz/1867MHz at only .987v. But now to stabilize the higher memory clock it needs a lot more core voltage.

UPDATE:

Tried to stabilize at 1050mV but got 4 artifacts, so will be using 1062mV @ 772/1544/2005 for 24/7 use.

Guess who's back for $279.99?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...n%20frozr%20ii

---------

I finally got my card stable @ 850-1700-1750 with 1.087v with the temps @ 65C Max

Oooh, I managed to get the memory to 2005 ( without the pencil mod ), now I'm satisfied.

Hi Guys, satisfied MSI GTX 465 GE user here. Card number is #1387 and successfully flashed to GTX 470. I have a few questions and would be very grateful if anyone could answer it.

1. Is it possible to do SLI with MSI GTX 465(flashed to 470) and a regular GTX 470? If yes, any restrictions and considerations? If not, a brief explanation would suffice.
2. Is it possible to do SLI with MSI GTX 465(flashed to 470) and another GTX 465 (different brand) also flashed to GTX 470? If yes, any restrictions and considerations? If not, a brief explanation would suffice.

Thank you guys in advance!

As long as both are recognized as 470's you'll be fine

Finally seem to have found my rock stable 24/7 overclock for air.

810/1620/2020 with 1075mV core and 1.60v memory (pencil mod)
Stability test max temp: 79c @ 100% fan

3D Mark Vantage + 3D Mark 11 Benchmark - Performance Level

i7-920 @ 4GHz 6GB DDR3-2005MHz 7-7-7-20
MSI 465 GE #2145 stock N470GTX TFII bios (date 6/25/10)

80c seems to be the temperature limit for my card. Thinking about getting a Rasa kit with MCW80 as this card seems to clock well and I feel can go a lot further under water. May even be worth it to get a full cover block to provide additional cooling to VRM and memory (especially for pencil mod).

Note to those who own a voltmeter or multimeter. Give the pencil mod a try, it's absolutely worth it! I was able to increase memory clock by 153MHz

Here's the link to the 06/10 CPU Mag issue (article on pgs. 34-36) that has info and a guide on doing the pencil mod.

Fortunately, the answer to both is a definite Yes! I mean after all, a GTX 470 is a GTX 470, even if it was binned as a GTX 465.

I unlocked a non-GE 465 Twin Frozr II, I'm so happy.

Currently testing it at 850/1700/1674; seems to be doing okay. How far up do you think it's worth kicking the memory?

Whoa, hang on! So you have one of those silver (err, like nickel-plated colored) Twin Frozr II GTX 465s, and it's working perfectly with the BIOS for a GTX 470? Does it have 1280 MB of memory too?
