Yeah, silver, flashed it and working fine. See here. Why have the silver ones not usually unlocked? If so, can I have my own club?

This is the first time I've ever seen a regular (vanilla? hehe) Twin Frozr II GTX 465 that is actually a GTX 470 in disguise just like most of the GEs. It makes me wonder if you have a one-of-a-kind, almost as though it's a mistake.

Woot I'm special.

In all seriousness though, I bought it open box from newegg, so maybe someone flashed the 470 with a 465 bios...? Not sure why anyone would, but hey if it's an anomaly it's a possibility.

Edit: So quick question, what should I focus my overclock on if I'm looking to increase the performance for folding? Shaders I presume?

Omg, I think I have an idea of what might have happened because this is something my unscrupulous Dad would do (he's normally a good guy, but he does stupid things like this sometimes): I think your card is a Golden Edition with the heatsink that comes with the Twin Frozr II GTX 470. I mean, I think somebody purchased both the Golden Edition and the normal GTX 470 Twin Frozr II, swapped the heatsinks, and then returned the Golden Edition with the GTX 470's regular Twin Frozr II heatsink on it, and they probably also returned it in the GTX 470's box as well. I mean, I bet this is what happened, and I bet that was the plan prior to placing their order.

Did you take a look at the manufacturer warranty sticker on the back of the PCB? This usually has the model # on it so you can tell whether it was originally a 465 or 470.

Also, what was your stock VID after flashing to a 470 bios? You can check in AB or GPU-Z.

Lol, I'm confounded as to why anyone would want a non-unlockable GE 465, but okay, to each his own.

Whatever happened, I'm happy.

That makes perfect sense, so not only he gets a full copper heatsink for his true 470 (silver), but he also gets a refund for the price of the 470 (465 unlocked) when return the 465 GE with the silver heatsink on it. It also benefits AOwpr since he gets a 465 GE unlocked at the price of a 465 Twin Frozr II.
In this case, newegg bears all losses.
What a master plan.

No, no, no. What I am saying is that I think the person who returned the Open Box card you have did this:
  1. Ordered both the plain Twin Frozr II GTX 470 and the Golden Edition GTX 465
  2. When they were delivered, the customer swapped the heatsinks, thereby converting their reference Twin Frozr II GTX 470 into a Golden Edition GTX 470.
  3. Then they returned the Golden Edition GTX 465, complete with the reference Twin Frozr II GTX 470's silver colored heatsink installed on it
  4. Newegg puts this up for sale as a plain old Open Box Twin Frozr II GTX 465

So, the card you have is a Golden Edition, but it has the reference GTX 470's Twin Frozr II heatsink on it.

So in other words, they bought both of the cards below, swapped their heatsinks, and then returned the Golden Edition inside of the GTX 470's box since they look identical due to having the same PCB:

Now that makes perfect sense as to what could've happened

I wonder if there are any more unlockable 465's with reference 470 PCB's that didn't make the cut into 470, so were sold as 465's, hmmmm..... I mean, isn't this how the gtx 465 GE was born?
