I presume you mean the regular MSI GTX465 with the aluminum-fin Twin Frozr II cooler? TTBOMK, no ... nobody has reported successfully unlocking one of those to a 470. Sorry man.
We had one report, but TwoCables came up with a pretty good theory.

Currently testing it at 850/1700/1674; seems to be doing okay. How far up do you think it's worth kicking the memory?

I mean, I think somebody purchased both the Golden Edition and the normal GTX 470 Twin Frozr II, swapped the heatsinks, and then returned the Golden Edition with the GTX 470's regular Twin Frozr II heatsink on it, and they probably also returned it in the GTX 470's box as well. I mean, I bet this is what happened, and I bet that was the plan prior to placing their order.

Has anyone replaced the fans yet? Both my GE 465 cards have a rattling issue above certain speeds. Also these cards dump serious heat in SLI mode. I am thinking I will have to W/C these bad boys. To confirm, you can use reference full cover GTX 470 blocks?

I'd like to replace the fans if possible. I get rattling between 55-68% fan speed. Sometimes varies above and below that, but goes away.
In progress.

I think I am going to ask MSI just to send me a set of new fans. Its very easy to replace them. Take off the main sink, and that's really it.

Well MSI said a big no. I am trying to get a replacement fan from the manufacture. I sent them an email so we shall see how it goes.

Did you get a response from the fan manufacture? I also have 1 fan that outright died, and would like to replace them. I rigged up a 80mm fan, but it's ghetto.

I can tell you that the Evercool Long Life fan from that link doesn't fit perfectly. the holes for the screws don't match up with the bracket, but you can make it work.

[edit] I picked up some super glue last night, I'm going to sand down the bracket and try super gluing the fan to it. I'll update with some pics after I'm done.

I found a site that has a pld08010s12h fan, which would probably work since these are pld08010s12hh, but they were purple, and the site was over in taiwan, and I couldn't read anything on the page.

Haha, yeah, they do kick of some serious heat, like all over my case too. My problem is i have a p55 board that has like no room in between the cards when in SLI. The top card was hitting 90C after only a few minutes of gameplay, I didn't like the excess heat in my case, so I went back to running one. I just sold the one of these that didn't OC as well, and picked up a refurb pny465, that unlocked to 470. My plan now is to put together a WC system, and get a watercooled block for the PNY, and run the GE under that.

But yes, the GE is reference board, so any of the gtx470 blocks should work.

[edit] well so far that Evercool replacement fan works pretty well, I had to hook it up to my fan controller, so it's still a little ghetto, but not nearly as bad as the 25mm thick one. Now I can put my shroud back on if i so choose.

I ran kombuster, and occt after I first put on the fan, and it was really high, ~90C and then i shut it off. I took the cooler off, and my TIM job was horrible, I had used some AS5 a few months back, and that just didn't work out well. I had some Rocketfish TIM laying around from a HSF I put in my parents PC when I was home for christmas last year, so I tried that, cuz it was a little thicker, I'm running kombuster right now and it's leveled off at 70C!

I'm going to try OCCT next, but I'd say this worked out well.

[edit] So testing w/ OCCT went well, only got up to 72C w/ new TIM.

Here are some crappy pics from my cell phone:

I just placed the shroud on to see if I lined it up well, and it seems I didn't, haha, but it should still work. The fan spins freely, just a little less space on one side.

Now I just have to remove the old fan, it's just dangling there. I was just going to unplug it, but I noticed the fans plug into each other then the vid card, now I think I'll just have to cut it, but I don't want to leave exposed wires.

[edit] This fan worked well enough for me, but I just broke it again! haha, I need to put the shroud back on this card. I'm just waiting until I order some new TIM to take the HS off to screw the shroud back in. Now I just added another $10 to the list of parts I need to buy. I am happy enough with this solution, I'm going to get some sleeving and try to integrate the power cable with the original one for a cleaner look.

Since you seem to have been messing around with the Twin Frozr ii quite abit maybe you could help me out: Is it possible to remove the aluminum cover and still have the fans running and does it affect temps in any way?

Thanks in advance )

EDIT: Found a nice pic:

EDIT: Found a nice pic:

I've been running mine w/o the shroud for a while now. Be careful you don't break your fans, if your hand nicks it, it will send a fin flying, lol.

I did it to try to lower temps when I had 2 in SLI...I didn't notice any difference, if anything all I noticed was more heat dumped in the case.

Hi, I have wanted this card since it was new, but knew I would have to wait for one fine day when it fell to my price range. That fine day came a week and a half ago when I scored one here in Japan for $140 with shipping !! I be a happy camper. So as mentioned in the title I am a linux user. I was using Linux mint, but as with my intergrated 8200 series it was not playing all HD content smooth with the 465 GE, so I got ready to run the gauntlet of systems to find the right one, but was very happy when the first one I tried improved the video playback to perfection. The system is Linux Mephis. Overall I am very satisfied now, but I know this card has much more to offer even without unlocking the 470 within. So this brings me to my questions.

A) anyone out there running this card on a Linux system, if so which one?

B) is there anyway to flash the card to a 470 in Linux?

C) is there anyway to OC the card without hurting my brain. I love linux, but I have EXTREME ADD, the real kind, so it can be very very very difficult for me at times. I am very slowly learning, and can follow directions so long as very regular language is used to explain the linux language. IE assume I know nothing about Linux, cause I really know very little. Just enough to love it.

D) I want to make love to this GPU, is that normal?
